US public welcomes end of unpopular war on Iran

There is widespread relief in the United States as its war on Iran, the most unpopular war in the nation's modern history, appears to be coming to an end.

A short-term memorandum of understanding was signed by the presidents of the two countries, ending what is universally considered to be a military and geopolitical disaster for the United States.

It's a war that just shouldn't have existed in the first place ... I can very easily understand why people look at that in the state of defeat.

For me, I tend to look at anything where we have US soldiers injured or killed, that's an immediate defeat to me.

President Donald Trump said he hopes to put the war in the rear view mirror, but the American public isn't likely to let him off that easily.

The odds of the Republican Party keeping control of Congress in the mid-term elections this autumn have plummeted, as has his personal approval rating.

After 108 days of barbaric bluster, outright lies, and cover-ups of the war's actual progress, Trump's esteem at home and abroad will probably never recover.

I mean, every time I check, it seems like his approval rating drops, and that there's no real world consequences. ... it doesn't matter, he's playing by his own set of rules, and I just think it doesn't really matter.

At this point I'm optimistic he'll leave at the end of his term, and I'm not sure he will, to be totally honest with you.

Polls show that a majority of Americans understood that there was no credible justification for the war, and, that it benefited Israel more than the United States.

But there is widespread anger over the way the war caused inflation to resume climbing in a nation where the dollar has lost a stunning 30% of purchasing power in just the last six years.

It's been much more difficult than what it could have been. Whenever Trump ran, he ran on no new wars.

That is just a known fact.

But once again, whenever you run for something and you vote for somebody who runs for it, you have to acknowledge that there's going to be things that come up.

You have to trust the person to make the best possible decision for everybody, right.

And in this case, I guess that's the real question that we have to ask, was this worth it in the end?

I mean, right now gas is a little bit atrocious to buy, but now that it's over, let's see how it goes.

Most agree that the biggest loser has been Israel.

The pro-Zionist lobby in the United States has also come under unprecedented criticism for its obvious control over Washington's foreign policy, even under a president who campaigned on a so-called America First platform.

It took the Vietnam War two decades to reach a 60% disapproval rating. It took the war against Iran just weeks.

The average American is clearly hopeful that the 60-day ceasefire and negotiating period will avoid the resumption of what has been a very costly conflict.
