Yemeni armed forces kill dozens of Saudi-backed mercenaries in fresh missile, drone strikes
The spokesperson for the Yemeni Armed Forces says the country’s military units have carried out a large-scale operation against Saudi-backed mercenaries in the southwestern province of Ta’izz, killing and wounding dozens of them in the process.
Brigadier General Yahya Saree announced in a statement that Yemeni troops struck Saudi-sponsored forces and their arms depots in the port city of Mokha on the Red Sea coast on Sunday, using ballistic missiles and kamikaze drones.
He added that the projectiles and unmanned aerial aircraft precisely struck their designated targets, inflicting heavy losses on the Saudi-backed mercenaries.
Saree noted that the major operation was conducted as the mercenaries were executing a substantial military buildup and preparing to launch attacks on Yemeni forces.
The senior Yemeni military official highlighted that ongoing attacks by Saudi-backed mercenaries on the western coast of Yemen and Ta’izz province in particular are meant to deter the Yemeni nation from confronting the unjust Saudi siege and brutal aggression, which has been in effect for nearly twelve years.
“We will not allow the Saudi enemy to achieve its goals of targeting our people, and throwing our sons into the chamber of death to serve its conspiratorial agenda at the behest of enemies of the Muslim world,” Saree stated.
He added, “The Yemeni Armed Forces, with God’s grace, will continue to monitor and track all Saudi-backed mercenaries’ movements and troop buildups, and will target them precisely and directly. Our Yemeni people and armed forces will keep up the ‘siege for siege’ equation, and will hit any troop buildups that target ordinary Yemeni people and liberated regions.”
On July 20, the Sana’a government declared a maritime blockade against Saudi Arabia, stating that the authorities in Riyadh have enforced “an unjust and oppressive siege” on Yemen for almost 12 years, “exploiting our resources and enforcing a total blockade.”
Subsequently, the Yemeni Armed Forces have reported numerous successful operations against vessels associated with Saudi Arabia in the Red Sea.
Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia and its allies have imposed a blockade on Yemen, initiating a comprehensive war supported militarily, politically, and logistically by the United States and certain Western countries. The war has killed tens of thousands of Yemenis, yet Saudi Arabia has failed to achieve its primary goal of reinstalling a puppet regime aligned with Riyadh.
