Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has stressed the responsibility of the US to ensure the proper implementation of the recently reached Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Iran during a phone call with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov.
Araghchi and Lavrov held a phone conversation on Wednesday in order to review the MoU and a range of regional and bilateral issues.
“The US bears responsibility for ensuring the proper implementation of the agreement’s provisions,” Araghchi emphasized, as he briefed Lavrov on details of the agreement, stressing that among the provisions is the complete cessation of attacks against Lebanon.
Lavrov, for his part, welcomed the finalization of the text of the MoU and reaffirmed Russia’s full support for its implementation.
The two ministers also underlined the importance of international backing for the agreement, including support from the United Nations Security Council.
They stressed the need for continued diplomatic cooperation among regional countries aimed at strengthening peace and stability.
Both sides also exchanged views on bilateral relations and agreed to follow up on the issues discussed and take the necessary steps to address them.
On Sunday, Iran’s Foreign Ministry announced that the MoU between Iran and the US had been finalized and is scheduled to be formally signed in Switzerland on Friday.
According to the statement, the war on all fronts, including Lebanon, was to end immediately and permanently from Sunday night.
On February 28, the US and the Israeli regime began their latest round of unprovoked aggression against Iran.
During the American-Israeli aggression, which continued until April 7, Iranian armed forces carried out retaliatory operations against the aggressors’ interests.
Following the announcement of a ceasefire on April 8, negotiations to permanently end the war began with Pakistan’s mediation.
The text of the MOU, which is based on Iran’s 14-point proposal presented at the outset of the ceasefire process, was reviewed repeatedly over the past 60 days in the capitals of both countries.
Following the signing of the MOU, the Tehran and Washington are expected to hold a series of intensive negotiations over the next 60 days in an effort to reach a comprehensive agreement on disputed issues.
