Hamas political leader and chief negotiator Khalil al-Hayya has strongly condemned an Israeli airstrike on a police station in central Gaza City that killed at least nine Palestinians, and called on mediators and guarantors to intervene immediately to stop the aggression against the besieged territory.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday evening, Hayya stated that repeated Israeli attacks confirm that the occupying Tel Aviv regime is proceeding with its aggressive approach without any regard for diplomatic efforts, mediations and existing international guarantees.
He added that continued escalation places a major and critical responsibility on the mediators and guarantor states, calling for their urgent intervention and international pressure on Israel to oblige it to stop aggression.
Hayya said such a measure would avoid the collapse of the Gaza ceasefire agreement and the renewal of the cycle of confrontation.
At least nine Palestinians, including police officers and children, were killed on Wednesday, and more than 15 others injured, when an Israeli airstrike hit a police station in central Gaza City.
Hamas: Targeting Gaza police is a war crime, meant to undermine ceasefire
Earlier, the resistance movement Hamas said the Israeli strike on the Gaza police station represents a “war crime” and falls within the framework of the Tel Aviv regime’s attempts to undermine the ceasefire agreement.
The massacre reflects the insistence of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s regime to evade its obligations and refuse to proceed with completing the stages of the ceasefire agreement, the group said in a statement.
It said the deadly Israeli strike took place following lengthy talks between mediators, guarantors, and Jared Kushner, Donald Trump's son-in-law and West Asia envoy.
Hamas also dismissed the allegations by the Israeli military regarding the targeting of its leaders in the attack, describing them as “misleading” and meant to justify the direct targeting of the civil police apparatus and civilians.
The resistance movement underscored that the systematic targeting of civil security services aims to foster instability, spread chaos and undermine the foundations of stability in the Gaza Strip, in a way that serves forced displacement schemes.
According to the latest Gaza Health Ministry figures, Israeli violations of the ceasefire have killed at least 1,270 Palestinians – and injured more than 4,000 – since last October, when the ceasefire agreement went into effect.
The ministry said the overall death toll from Israel’s genocide in the territory has passed the 73,400 mark, with 174,335 wounded.
