Ben-Gvir boasts of Israeli facility for executing Palestinian prisoners

Itamar Ben Gvir points to a construction site he says will be used to hang Palestinian prisoners.

Israeli minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has revealed an under-construction facility that he says will be used to execute Palestinian prisoners, boasting that the project marks the fulfillment of his long-standing push to introduce the death penalty for Palestinians.

“In this place, the terrorists will be executed,” Ben-Gvir said in a video posted on Instagram on Tuesday, pointing towards what appeared to be an active construction site.

He said the complex would include “viewing chambers where victims of crimes could watch" Palestinian prisoners being hanged.

“We are fulfilling what we promised,” Ben-Gvir said, describing the construction as a victory over those who had mocked his campaign for the execution of Palestinians.

Ben-Gvir said those who had “ridiculed” and “giggled” at his proposal could now see that “this place is starting to be built.”

His remarks come months after Israel’s parliament, the Knesset, approved legislation in March allowing the death penalty for Palestinians convicted by a military court of killing Israelis.

The law has drawn criticism over its discriminatory nature, as it specifically targets Palestinians while not applying the same provision to Israelis convicted of murder.

According to Ben-Gvir’s office, the first wing for Palestinian prisoners sentenced to death is being designated and will include a special room for carrying out executions.

Meanwhile, Abdullah al-Zaghari, head of the Palestinian Prisoner Society, condemned the move as part of the Israeli occupation’s “continued determination” to turn anti-Palestinian incitement and legislation into concrete measures aimed at executing Palestinian prisoners.

Al-Zaghari warned that the preparations to implement the law represented a dangerous escalation, describing the planned executions as a "crime against humanity."

He said Israel is using Palestinian prisoners as a political tool while subjecting them to killing and torture.

He also blamed the international community’s “silence” for enabling Israel’s continued violations against Palestinian prisoners.

According to Palestinian figures, around 9,400 Palestinians are currently held in Israeli prisons, including 92 women and more than 370 children, while 3,244 are held under administrative detention, and 1,320 are classified by Israel as “unlawful combatants.”
