Iran on Saturday announced the dates for the funeral ceremonies of the martyred Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, with commemorations and processions scheduled in Tehran, Qom and finally the burial in Mashhad.
Saturday also marked the first anniversary of the 12-day war imposed on Iran as officials stressed the country's unity, independence and determination to safeguard its achievements.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, in a TV interview, outlined the framework of a potential Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the United States and cautioned that diplomacy must reinforce the gains secured by the Islamic Republic.
The day also saw continued Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon, with Hezbollah resistance fighters carrying out operations in defense of the country.
Key developments on day 106 of the war, the 66th day of the ceasefire:
- Farewell ceremonies for the martyred Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei will be held at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini Mosalla on July 4 and 5. A funeral procession in Tehran is scheduled for July 6, while another procession will take place in the holy city of Qom on July 7. The final funeral ceremony will be held in the holy city of Mashhad on July 9. The martyred Leader will be laid to rest at the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS).
- Iranian authorities marked the first anniversary of the 12-day war, which began on June 13 last year with unprovoked and illegal Israeli aerial aggression that martyred several top military commanders, officials, and nuclear scientists.
- FM Araghchi outlined the contours of a potential MOU between Iran and the United States, while highlighting that diplomacy is intended to consolidate the gains achieved by the Islamic Republic on the battlefield.
- Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said Tehran remains pessimistic about diplomacy with the United States due to Washington’s record of reneging on commitments, adding that no trip to Geneva has been planned over the next two days amid reports of a possible agreement with the US.
- Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf, Iran's parliament speaker, warned the United States against reneging on the commitments that Washington could undertake as part of a potential MOU or agreement with the Islamic Republic.
- Judiciary chief Gholam Hossein Mohseni-Ejei said that the “amazing national unity” in Islamic Iran has left the world “astonished and bewildered.”
- Major General Ali Abdollahi, the commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, said the world will soon hear the echo of Iran’s victory and the triumph of the resistance over the aggressive and terrorist enemy.
- General Abdollahi stated that the Iranian nation has proved that it would never bargain away its security, independence, or dignity to any power.
- Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said a memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States to end the war is "closer than ever," with finalization expected within the next 24 hours.
- Iran's High Council for Human Rights condemned a recent US military strike targeting drinking water reservoirs in southern Iran as a violation of international law, international humanitarian law, and fundamental human rights.
- Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon resulted in the martyrdom of at least five individuals, with assaults persisting despite a "ceasefire" in place.
- As part of their operations in defense of Lebanon amid ongoing Israeli aggression, fighters from the Hezbollah resistance movement struck and destroyed a headquarters of the Israeli occupation forces in southern Lebanon.
