June 9: Iran slams politically motivated IAEA resolution, as US Apache helicopter crashes near Strait of Hormuz

By Press TV Website Staff

Iran on Tuesday strongly condemned attempts to push through a politically motivated resolution at the IAEA Board of Governors meeting, asserting that Washington is exploiting the agency to justify continued pressure on the Islamic Republic.

US President Donald Trump acknowledged the loss of a US Apache helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz, confirming earlier reports that emerged amid continued US ceasefire violations and Iran’s retaliatory operations.

Iran denied any role in the incident, with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi underlining Tehran's territorial right to the strategic Strait of Hormuz, reminding adversaries of the dedication of the country's armed forces to guarding the waterway against foreign interference.

Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said Tehran prefers diplomacy to end the US-Israeli aggression but stressed that other options remain available, as nationwide nightly rallies continue even after 100 days of resistance across the country.

The day also saw Iran stress the expansion of its defence capabilities, while regional resistance movements reaffirmed their positions amid continuing Israeli attacks on Lebanon.

Key developments on day 102 of the war, the 62nd day of the ceasefire:

  • Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, censured the Board of Governors of the IAEA over a politically-motivated draft resolution. He said that the move by the US and three European Union countries at the IAEA is a “dangerous attempt” to whitewash accountability for aggressors and criminals.
  • Iran’s permanent mission to the United Nations in Vienna said it was “ridiculous for the US, the aggressor, to submit a draft resolution to the Board of Governors on Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities.”
  • Trump acknowledged that an American military attack helicopter went down near the Strait of Hormuz, while Iran denied any role in the incident.
  • Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi underscored Iran's territorial right to the Strait of Hormuz, reminding the US and its allies of the country's resolve to guard the waterway against any foreign interference.
  • Speaker Qalibaf said Iran prefers to use diplomacy to put an end to the US-Israeli aggression against the country, while warning that other options are on the table to deal with the aggressors.
  • The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) praised eulogists, poets, and committed artists for standing alongside the Iranian people during public demonstrations of support for the Islamic Republic and its defence forces over the past 100 days.
  • Qalibaf also lauded the Iranians for their ongoing nightly street rallies, which have extended to 100 days as a symbol of popular resistance against the US‑Israeli war of aggression.
  • A funeral ceremony was held for Bahman Hosseini and Alireza Abiri, two members of Iran’s Army Air Defence Force who were martyred during Israeli strikes on the country earlier this week.
  • Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said the US orchestrated a false‑flag drone attack on Kuwait International Airport to create a pretext for selling nearly $2 billion worth of American counter‑drone systems to Kuwait.
  • Iran vowed to boost its defence capabilities amid ongoing US-Israeli military aggression, which has also targeted the country's military infrastructure and weapons arsenal.
  • In an interview with CNN, senior lawmaker and chairman of the parliament's national security and foreign policy commission, Ebrahim Azizi, said the United States lacks a “serious will” to reach an implementable framework, adding that Lebanon remains an inseparable part of any agreement for the Islamic Republic.
  • Mohsen Rezaei, advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, said Iran remains committed to diplomacy but will not hesitate to decisively break the US naval blockade imposed on the Strait of Hormuz if negotiations fail.
  • Brigadier General Esmail Qaani, the commander of the IRGC Quds Force, announced the establishment of a formidable new Axis of Resistance security belt stretching from the Strait of Hormuz to Bab el-Mandeb and from the Persian Gulf to the Red Sea.
  • The Football Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran (FFIRI) strongly condemned the abrupt decision by US authorities to cancel its ticket quota and obstruct the sale of tickets to Team Melli fans. US authorities obstructed the presence of Iranian football fans at stadiums where Team Melli will play three matches in the group stage.
  • Hezbollah said Iran’s response to Israeli aggression demonstrates its moral, political, and operational commitment to Lebanon, urging Lebanese officials to seize the opportunity and improve mutually beneficial relations with Tehran.
  • Trump has claimed at least 37 times over the past two months that a deal aimed at ending the cycle stemming from the latest round of unprovoked American-Israeli aggression against Iran was imminent, according to a CNN analysis.
  • Nine Lebanese civilians were killed and dozens more wounded after Israeli airstrikes hit the historic port city of Tyre in southern Lebanon, according to Lebanese authorities.
  • Itamar Ben-Gvir, the hawkish Israeli minister, said the Lebanese women and youth must be kidnapped as a means of exerting pressure on the resistance movement Hezbollah.
  • Residents and activists in southern Lebanon said Israeli drones are broadcasting recorded sounds of crying children, distressed women and emergency sirens in an effort to spread fear and lure civilians into the open.
  • Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri stated that Lebanon will accept nothing less than a complete and unconditional ceasefire on land, air and sea, strongly reaffirming the Lebanese resistance’s principled and steadfast position against Israeli aggression.
