June 6: Iran condemns US drone strike as IRGC strikes US bases in Kuwait, Bahrain in retaliation

Iran on Saturday condemned a pre-dawn US drone strike on its radar facilities as a violation of the ceasefire, as the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) announced retaliatory strikes on two US air bases in Kuwait and the remaining facilities of the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain in response to the attack.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi criticised Lebanese President Joseph Aoun’s claims about Iran’s role in Lebanon, urging him to focus on the country’s “real foe” rather than Tehran.

Tehran renewed its criticism of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) over its politicised approach to Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.

The day also saw continued developments in Lebanon, a visit to Tehran by Pakistan’s interior minister Mohsen Naqvi, and international reactions to the US-Israeli aggression against Iran from figures including Pope Leo XIV and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Key developments on day 99 of the war, the 59th day of the ceasefire:

• Iran strongly condemned a pre-dawn US drone strike on its radar facilities as a "flagrant breach" of the April ceasefire, reaffirming its "legitimate and inherent" right to self-defence while urging the United Nations to take action against repeated US violations of the truce.
• IRGC said it targeted two US air bases in Kuwait and the remaining facilities of the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain in response to the latest US aggression.
• Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi sharply criticized comments made by Lebanese President Joseph Aoun about Tehran’s alleged influence in the Arab country, urging him to focus on Lebanon's "real foe" rather than Iran.
• Ali Akbar Velayati, a senior advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, warned against sacrificing the Resistance for hollow promises. He said sustainable peace grows from a balance of power rather than appeasing the enemy.
• Tehran censured the IAEA over its politicized stance, saying if the agency wants to be part of a diplomatic solution, it must refrain from turning technical reports into a tool of political pressure.
• Iran’s football federation condemned the United States for denying visas to members of the Iranian national team’s support staff ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, calling the move a “clear violation of international sports regulations.”
• Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi arrived in Tehran for an official visit aimed at holding high-level discussions with Iranian officials in line with Islamabad's ongoing mediation efforts between Iran and the United States.
• Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Esmaeil Baghaei, said the targeting of Lebanese army forces by the Israeli enemy once again confirms that the regime's hostility is directed toward all of Lebanon. 
• Russian President Vladimir Putin blasted the United States over the war of aggression against Iran, saying he saw no provocation from the Islamic Republic before the war began.
• Pope Leo XIV said the military aggression by the United States and Israel against Iran was "not a just war", insisting that the centuries-old doctrine does not fit the realities of modern warfare.
• Iran chided Lebanese President Joseph Aoun for “selling out” those who stand beside him while remaining loyal to the enemies of Lebanon, after he criticized Iran’s “influence” in the Arab country.
• Alaeddin Boroujerdi, member of Iran’s Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, rejected the Lebanese government’s criticism of Hezbollah and Iran’s support for the resistance group, saying the Israeli regime would have occupied Lebanon if it were not for the sacrifices of Hezbollah and its brave defense of the Arab country.The 
• Lebanese army said several soldiers, including a senior officer, were killed in an Israeli airstrike that targeted a military vehicle in southern Lebanon, despite a renewed ceasefire agreement.
• The Hezbollah resistance movement condemned the “sinful Israeli aggression” against a Lebanese Army vehicle in southern Lebanon, which resulted in the killing of three military personnel, including two officers.
• Wahid Abu Ras, Yemen’s deputy foreign minister, said it is time for Lebanon to unite against the Israeli regime after a deadly attack on the Lebanese army.
• Ali al-Miqdad, a member of the Loyalty to the Resistance Bloc in the Lebanese parliament, rejected US President Donald Trump's claim of contact between Washington and Hezbollah, emphasising that calls and exchange of messages are only carried out through intermediaries and some countries in the region.
• The Pentagon has raised the counter-intelligence threat level to its highest level, amid escalating concerns that the Israeli regime had become more aggressive in its US espionage activities, NBC News reported.
• The US has authorised a potential $2 billion sale of counter-drone defence systems and associated military equipment to Kuwait in an agreement valued at approximately $2 billion.
• Kuwaiti authorities handed down a three-year prison sentence to a presenter working for the Persian Gulf kingdom’s state-run television, after she published posts on social media platforms in support of Iran’s retaliatory operations in the wake of the US-Israeli onslaught.
• The US Air Force is seeking to acquire additional MQ-9 Reaper drones after suffering heavy losses during the joint US-Israeli aggression against Iran, according to the War Zone report.
• According to the survey by the Pew Research Center, hatred against Israel and Benjamin Netanyahu has risen sharply across much of the world, amid the fallout from its wars on Gaza and Iran.
