South Koreans are pushing back against US pressure to involve Seoul in military operations in the Strait of Hormuz, as growing public opposition highlights mounting strains in the US-South Korean alliance.
Civic leaders gathered outside the presidential office in Seoul to demand that the government reject any discussion of a military involvement in the US-led operation in the strategic waterway. The pushback comes as joint military drills between the two countries have been scaled back.
