Martyred leader laid to rest
The body of martyred leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, has been laid to rest at the holy shrine of Imam Reza in the Iranian city of Mashhad. The leader’s interment took place after the funeral prayers were held at the holy shrine. Funeral prayers were led by Ayatollah Khamenei’s eldest son, Seyyed Mostafa Khamenei, alongside several members of his family. Before the burial, the bodies of Ayatollah Khamenei and his family members were circled around the holy shrine of Imam Reza. The bodies arrived in Mashhad after huge funeral processions were held in the holy Iraqi cities of Najaf and Karbala. More than ten million people attended the processions in the Iraqi cities. The funerals in Iraq followed mourning ceremonies in the Iranian capital, Tehran, and the city of Qom. Ayatollah Khamenei’s funeral ceremonies were among the largest gatherings in history, and were covered by scores of journalists and media outlets from around the world. Ayatollah Khamenei and several members of his family lost their lives in a US-Israeli strike on February 28.
Justice should be served
The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps says avenging the blood of the martyred Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, will remain a definite, legitimate, and unforgettable demand. In a statement, the IRGC said the demand won’t fade away until justice is served and a proportionate response is given to criminals especially the child-killing US Army. The statement added that the US and all enemies should know that by assassinating the Leader, they will never bring down the banner of resistance. It also thanked the Iranian people for their epic participation in the funeral ceremonies for the martyred Leader. In a separate message, Army Commander Major General Amir Hatami thanked the Iranian people for their historic participation in the farewell ceremonies. He said that Iran will emerge from difficult trials with stronger resolve. Separately, the commander of Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said the unprecedented public turnout sent a resounding call for justice and a firm rejection of the schemes of arrogant powers.
Russia-Ukraine conflict
Moscow says it no longer believes the West is genuinely willing to pursue a negotiated solution to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov criticized the West for imitating a willingness to negotiate, while openly issuing ultimatums to Russia. The top Russian diplomat also said that although the West has been calling for talks, it has spent more than a decade undermining every attempt to reach a peaceful resolution between Russia and Ukraine. Lavrov said Europe is becoming a major threat to international peace and security, by providing military support to Ukraine. Diplomatic efforts, including those backed by US President Donald Trump, have yet to produce a breakthrough in ending the years-long conflict.
