Pakistan's interior minister leaves for Tehran for second time this week

Pakistan’s Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi

Pakistan’s Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi has headed to Tehran for the second time this week amid efforts to end the war between Iran and the US, Iranian news agencies report.

Naqvi left Islamabad for Tehran on Wednesday to hold talks with Iranian officials, Tasnim news agency reported.

Forty days into US-Israeli aggression against Iran, Pakistan mediated a ceasefire between Tehran and Washington which took effect on April 8, 2026.

Since then, Pakistani officials have been regularly visiting the US and Iran to broker a permeant peace agreement between the two countries.

Iranian officials have repeatedly emphasized that while the country’s armed forces stand ready for any miscalculation on the part of the enemy, Tehran is ready to reach an agreement with the US, if Washington sets aside its maximalist demands.

The criminal US-Israeli aggression against Iran began on February 28 with airstrikes that assassinated senior Iranian officials and commanders.

Iranian armed forces, and Islamic resistance movements across the regions responded by launching daily missile and drone operations targeting locations in the Israeli-occupied territories as well as US military bases and assets across the region.

Furthermore, Iran retaliated against the strikes by closing the Strait of Hormuz, which resulted in a significant increase in oil prices and its by-products.

Following the declaration of the ceasefire, negotiations ensued in Islamabad but stopped short of an agreement amid Washington’s insistence on unreasonable positions.

Since then, Iran has categorically refused to rejoin the process unless the US lifts an illegal blockade it has imposed on Iranian vessels and ports.

Tehran has also asserted that, as long as the blockade is still in place, it has no intention of reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
