Trump troop deployment

The US Supreme Court has rejected the deployment of National Guard troops to the Chicago area in a clear setback for President Donald Trump's. The court’s decision came as Trump is trying to expand the use of the military for domestic purposes in a growing number of Democratic-led cities. The Supreme Court upheld a lower court’s decision to block the deployment of hundreds of National Guard troops to Chicago in a legal challenge brought by Illinois officials and local leaders. The Supreme Court justices asserted in their opinion that the government has failed to identify a source of authority that would allow the military to execute the laws in Illinois. Trump's decision to deploy National Guard troops to Democratic-led cities has drawn fire from critics, who accuse him of trying to punish adversaries and stifle dissent. Democratic officials have also rejected Trump's claims as a pretext for sending troops, accusing him of abusing presidential powers.

US-Venezuela tensions

Venezuela has strongly condemned the escalation of the United States’ threats against the Latin American country, describing Washington’s effort to justify its aggressive measures as absurd. The country’s UN ambassador was addressing a Security Council meeting. Moncada said the US is subjecting his country to the biggest blackmail operation in its history, adding that Venezuela is just the first target in a larger plan. He stressed that the people of Venezuela will not relinquish their resolve in defending the nation. Moncada added that the disinformation campaign used by the US to justify its aggression against Venezuela must be exposed. He emphasized that Washington is acting irresponsibly, and is trying to impose the idea that the law should apply to everyone except the United States. The Venezuelan ambassador asserted that if the escalation of US armed attacks continues, his country will exercise its inalienable right to self-defense with unwavering resolve.
