Pezeshkian meets Leader
Iran’s president has met the Leader of the Islamic Revolution as he begins his third year in office. During the meeting, Masoud Pezeshkian and Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei discussed the country’s key challenges in detail. The issues discussed included the people’s economic needs, the current situation of the third US imposed war against the country, the outlook for the future, developments in the military sphere, strategies for securing financial resources, and economic engagement with foreign partners. Pezeshkian began his term as Iran’s ninth president in 2024.
Israel-US rift over Gaza
The Israeli Prime Minister has flatly rejected the US-backed 15-point plan for Gaza, vowing not to withdraw Israeli occupation forces until what he called the genuine and complete disarmament of Hamas. Speaking at a cabinet meeting, Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel rejects the plan and will not carry out any pullback until Hamas is stripped of all its weapons, both heavy and light, dismissing any partial or symbolic disarmament. He also said he would never accept the establishment of a Palestinian state in Gaza or the occupied West Bank. Netanyahu confirmed that discussions are underway with Washington, saying some US proposals are acceptable while others are not. His rejection comes despite the Cabinet’s approval of the entry of an international stabilization force into the Gaza Strip, and after Hamas had already agreed to the peace roadmap.
Yemeni retaliation
The Yemeni armed forces say they have struck Saudi-affiliated forces and their weapons depot in Yemen’s Red Sea coastal city of al-Mokha with a volley of ballistic missiles and drones. In a statement, the armed forces said the retaliatory strikes were in response to Saudi military buildup used to attack Yemen’s western coast, including the Ta’iz province. The armed forces said the strikes on al-Mokha destroyed large amounts of Saudi weapons and military equipment and injured dozens of Saudi-affiliated forces. Earlier, Yemeni armed forces also confirmed a drone strike on Saudi Arabia’s Jazan oil refinery. The attack, which followed a similar strike on July 27, caused a major fire at the Aramco facility. Yemeni forces have been launching strikes on Saudi Arabia since the kingdom resumed its airstrikes on its southern neighbor last month.
