US-Israel 'strategic deadlock'
The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps says the wars imposed by the US and Israel against Iran have revealed new dimensions of the two allies’ strategic deadlock and decline of grandeur. The IRGC said the two imposed wars disclosed division among Western allies, adding that Washington and Tel Aviv failed to achieve the sinister plots announced earlier by the US President. What the IRGC said was mentioned in a statement marking National Journalists’ Day in Iran. The statement says that global media now acknowledges Washington’s failure to defeat Iran and even admits that the memorandum of understanding with Iran amounted to nothing more than Washington’s surrender to Iran’s negotiating power. The IRGC praised Iranian journalists for their efforts to counter the enemies’ disinformation campaigns during the war. Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf also hailed the press for thwarting the enemies’ war of rumors and distortion. Ghalibaf said Zionism and global arrogance not only bombard cities, but also target the truth.
Yemen strikes Saudi proxies
The Yemeni armed forces say they carried out strikes on Saudi-backed troops in the Marib Province of Yemen. In a statement, the armed forces said they targeted the Saudi-backed camps using a large number of missiles and drones. The Yemeni military specified the operation targeted troops concentrations, along with their warehouses, vehicles, and military equipment. The statement affirmed the military will forcefully strike any Saudi troop buildup or attempts by Riyadh to maintain its blockade on Yemen. The armed forces also reiterated that they will continue the equation of “blockade for blockade" and "targeting Saudi aggressive troop concentrations wherever they may be."
Spain-Italy border row
Spain has announced temporary border checks on visitors from Italy in a tit-for-tat move. The Spanish interior minister says the checks come amid persistent irregular migration pressure facing Italy and will last until September 7th. Earlier, Madrid said in a statement that Italy’s measure to impose temporary suspension of Schengen with Spain is unjust and contrary to the interests of the EU and discriminatory toward the Spanish population. Some days ago, Rome announced the border controls in reaction to the sudden influx of tens of thousands of migrants from Morocco into the Spanish exclave of Ceuta. Madrid also took a swipe at Rome for criticizing Spain’s handling of migrants, while Italy itself has recorded the highest number of irregular migrant crossings in recent years.
