Iran's warning
Iran’s parliament speaker says the US must know that the days of Washington resorting to intimidation and threats to annihilate Iran are over. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf also called the US president delusional for his rhetoric about the Strait of Hormuz and passage of ships through the waterway, saying the truth is otherwise and known to everyone. Ghalibaf warned that the US needs to understand the basic truths about Iran or it will be trapped in a cycle of getting heavy blows from Iran. He also warned of a harsh, punishing and quick response in case of another miscalculation by the US and new aggression or adventurism against Iran.
France protests
Protests sweeping across France: students clash with security forces and public-sector workers strike over pay and working conditions. French teenagers clashed with police as protests spread across hundreds of schools, with rubbish bins set alight and projectiles thrown. Police responded with batons and tear gas. The Education Ministry says 338 schools have been affected. Forty people have been arrested and 10 students and staff injured. Meanwhile, teachers, healthcare workers, firefighters, tax officials and local government employees struck over a proposed public-sector pay freeze ahead of the 2027 budget. Eight unions demand wage increases, with about 170 demonstrations planned. Transport disruption remains limited, but flight cuts were ordered at Charles de Gaulle and Marseille-Provence airports.
Trump popularity plunge
Donald Trump’s approval rating has plummeted to 37%, the lowest for any president heading into midterm elections since 1990. A new wall street journal poll shows growing voter dissatisfaction as the seven-month aggression on Iran continues to strain American wallets. With the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, key energy supplies remain blocked, driving gas prices up to a sharp surge. Political analysts say economic pressure, rising living costs and the unpopular war are severely dragging down Republican electoral prospects. The upcoming midterm elections will determine control of US Congress, with a defeat threatening to strip the Trump administration of its legislative power.
