US war casualties
A new report has revealed that eight US Marines have been injured in an Iranian missile strike in the Strait of Hormuz. According to an NBC News report citing US officials, the Marines were injured two weeks ago when Iran launched an anti-ship cruise missile at a vessel they were operating on. The report says the Marines suffered smoke inhalation and may have sustained traumatic brain injuries after experiencing concussion-like symptoms, including headaches. The officials said the Marines were operating as part of a battalion landing team, claiming that the vessel was not a US Navy ship but declining to identify its type. The Pentagon’s Defense Casualty Analysis System had recorded 861 US service members as injured in the aggression as of Wednesday. The Pentagon has faced growing scrutiny over its undercounting of military casualties since the US -Israeli aggression against Iran began in February.
Rising oil prices
Oil prices soar in Asia trading as the US president’s rejection of an Iranian truce proposal raises the specter of longer disruptions at the key energy chokepoint, the Strait of Hormuz. International benchmark Brent for November delivery jumped 2.6 % to nearly 107 $ a barrel in Monday trading. US crude futures also gained nearly 1.7 % to more than 94 $ a barrel. Oil futures are now trading nearly 50 % higher than the price before the US-Israeli aggression against Iran led to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has tabled a proposal to reopen the key waterway in exchange for an end to the US aggression, among other things. But US President Donald Trump rejected that offer in a tweet, though Tehran says Washington is yet to officially announce its rejects via existing channels.
Israel Lebanon aggression
The Israeli regime has launched new airstrikes on southern Lebanon in violation of a ceasefire agreement with Beirut. The latest attacks targeted the outskirts of the town of Zawtar al-Sharqiyah in Nabatieh. A separate air raid hit the town of Qantara in Marjayoun district. Regime’s artillery fire also targeted several homes in the town of Zibqin in Tyre. The regime’s military continues to occupy parts of the Lebanese territory in the south despite a US-brokered ceasefire that calls for withdrawal. Beirut says Israel has refused to withdraw from the occupied areas while its widespread destruction continues.
