Israeli forces abduct Syrian youth after raid into Dara’a village
Israeli military forces have stormed into a village in Syria’s southern Dara’a province, abducting a young man in yet another violation of the Arab country’s sovereignty.
The television news channel al-Ikhbariyah Syria reported on Sunday that three Israeli armored vehicles, supported by reconnaissance flights, entered the village of Ma’ariya.
Meanwhile, Lebanon’s al-Mayadeen television network reported that the occupation forces abducted the young Syrian man after entering Ma’ariya and then withdrew toward the Jazira military post.
Israeli occupation forces carried out 20 incursions across Syria’s Dara’a and Quneitra provinces during the first week of August, according to the so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).
After the collapse of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s government in December 2024, Israel has launched frequent aerial assaults across Syria and ground incursions in the southern part of the country.
Israel has also set up numerous checkpoints in Syria and abducted its citizens. The usurping entity has further expanded control over the occupied Golan Heights, taking over a demilitarized buffer zone in violation of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.
The UN and various Arab countries have censured Israel for exploiting the disorder in Syria to acquire land.
Despite promises by Syria’s ruling Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) regime to collaborate with Tel Aviv, Israel has consistently refused to end its illegal occupation of Syrian territory and repeated attacks.
The two sides have been involved in intermittent discussions to secure a “safety pact,” yet no agreement or significant progress has been reported.
In a separate development on Saturday, the HTS defense ministry announced that a soldier was killed and two others wounded in an attack by unidentified assailants in eastern Deir al-Zawr province.
The soldiers came under a “treacherous attack” in the town of Jadid Bakara, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported, citing the ministry’s media and communications directorate.
