Israel intensifies assaults on Lebanon, expands illegal incursions into Syria
Israeli forces have escalated assaults on Lebanon and Syria, striking southern Lebanon and deepening military incursions into Syria’s Quneitra province.
Israeli forces attacked southern Lebanon on Saturday, carrying out strikes on Zawtar al-Sharqiya and shelling the Mashaa al-Mansouri area in Tyre district.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned repeated Israeli violations in southern Lebanon, particularly strikes targeting infrastructure and sites listed as UNESCO World Heritage locations.
Aoun warned that the attacks threatened the so-called Lebanon-Israel framework agreement, which was reached through US mediation to end the Israeli aggression against Lebanon.
“The timing of these actions sends negative messages and weakens international efforts aimed at consolidating stability,” Aoun stated, calling on guarantor countries and the international community to take immediate action against continued violations.
The Israeli regime is deliberately demolishing residential areas and destroying their infrastructure across southern Lebanon in an effort to render the region uninhabitable.
The Israeli assault on Lebanon began on March 2 in violation of the ceasefire agreement with the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah.
Israeli forces have killed 4,321 civilians and wounded 12,207 others since March 2, according to Lebanese health authorities.
In Syria, Israeli forces carried out further incursions on Saturday in Quneitra province, entering the village of Bureiqa and establishing a checkpoint to search residents and passersby.
Since the fall of the Syrian government in December 2024, the regime has expanded its presence in southern Syria, carrying out airstrikes on defense facilities and advancing deeper into areas of Quneitra province.
After Quneitra province, Daraa province ranks second in terms of Israeli violations, with 32 recorded breaches of its territory by Israeli forces.
However, the violations in Daraa are considered more dangerous in nature, involving artillery attacks, ground incursions and intensive fighter jet flights.
Israeli forces have also seized parts of southern Syria, including the strategic Mount Hermon area, while Syrian sources report near-daily artillery attacks, ground incursions and repeated airspace violations in Daraa, Damascus countryside and Sweida province.
