Regional diplomacy aimed at de-escalation

Amid reports of Tehran and Washington's imminent nuclear talks, Iran’s president says he has ordered the ministry of foreign affairs to pursue fair and equitable negotiations. In a post on his X social media account, Masoud Pezeshkian said the negotiations shall be conducted within the framework of Iran’s national interests. The President added that the talks, free from threats and unreasonable expectations, should be guided by the principles of dignity, prudence and expediency. Meanwhile, a senior adviser to the leader of the Islamic Revolution says Tehran will show flexibility if other parties offer concessions in return. Ali Shamkhani reaffirmed that Iran will not transfer its enriched uranium to any other country, as there is no need to do so. Shamkhani emphasized that Iran has never sought to produce nuclear weapons, citing Ayatollah Khamenei's religious decree that forbids development of such weapons. Iranian officials have said that the country welcomes fair and equitable negotiations, while rejecting dictates and threats.

'Stop aggression against Lebanon'

Hezbollah's leader has asserted that Lebanon has met all its duties regarding the ceasefire, and the pressure must now be on Israel and America to stop their aggression. He also warned that the resistance can inflict significant pain on the Israeli regime. Sheikh Naim Qassem condemned the recent strikes on homes in southern villages as a tactic of environmental terror aimed at surrender. Addressing the broader conflict, Sheikh Qassem warned of an existential war waged by the enemy against Lebanon. He called for Lebanese unity, while calling the Israeli military operations as a national assault affecting all citizens. The Hezbollah chief said Lebanon has two choices: dignified resistance or humiliating subjugation.

Russia-Ukraine war

The NATO Secretary-General accuses Russia of not being serious about peace just days before planned peace talks in the United Arab Emirates. Mark Rutte made the remark in Kyiv, referring to overnight Russian attacks that were in response to Ukrainian drone strikes that killed two civilians in Russia's Belgorod region. Ukraine's president says Russia launched over 70 missiles and hundreds of drones, cutting heat to homes in freezing Kyiv. The attacks come as US-brokered trilateral talks between Ukraine, Russia, and Washington are scheduled to begin on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the NATO chief has urged member countries to send more air defenses to Ukraine.
