Iran, Iraq to play decisive role in emerging regional order as US hegemony fails: Qalibaf

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf has declared that Iran and Iraq are poised to play a decisive role in shaping a new regional order, emphasizing that the United States has suffered a definitive defeat in its military and political war against the Islamic Republic.

Speaking on Tuesday during a high-level meeting in Tehran with Faeq Zidan, the Head of Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council, Qalibaf highlighted the profound historical bonds between the two nations and the shifting geopolitical landscape of West Asia.

Qalibaf asserted that the United States initiated its recent war against Iran with the explicit intent of overthrowing the Iranian political system and expanding American hegemony across the Islamic world.

However, he stated that this objective was thoroughly thwarted.

"Thanks to the blood of the martyrs, the determination of the valiant Iranian nation, and the efforts of the Resistance Front, they clearly failed, and the entire world has acknowledged this reality," Qalibaf said.

Addressing the ongoing US campaign of economic pressure, the Iranian legislative chief dismissed American threats.

"America failed in its military and political war against Iran, and it will also fail in its economic actions," he declared.

A historic moment for new regional order

Describing the current geopolitical climate as a "sensitive and historic" juncture, Qalibaf pointed to clear signs of a new regional order taking shape.

He specifically welcomed the impending withdrawal of US-led coalition forces from Iraq, calling it a "historical honor for the Iraqi government and people," and expressed hope that this exit would be complete, covering both Iraqi land and airspace.

He also warned of the broader implications of the recent war, noting that the Zionist regime’s strategic map involves dragging other regional countries into war.

"If Israel had succeeded in its war against Iran, it would have moved on to target other countries in the region," he cautioned.

To counter these threats, Qalibaf urged Islamic nations to set aside divisive issues.

Highlighting the unity displayed during the war on Gaza, he recalled the words of the late Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani that "Shia and Sunni are not only brothers, but we would give our lives for the Sunni."

Iraq’s message of solidarity

In response, Zidan conveyed a strong message of solidarity from the Iraqi government and people to Iran in the wake of the recent US-Israeli war of aggression.  

He affirmed Baghdad’s readiness to deepen cooperation with Tehran, noting that strong Iran-Iraq relations create a foundation for broader security and cooperation agreements across the region.

"Cooperation, agreement, and coalition-building among regional countries is the only way out of insecurity, and I believe this reality is very close," Zidan stated.

Zidan also paid solemn tribute to the recent, massive funeral processions held in Iraq for the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, describing the turnout as a spontaneous and deeply popular expression of respect.

"We will never forget the positive stances of the Islamic Republic of Iran toward Iraq, nor will we forget the Iranian martyrs, especially General Soleimani, who was martyred in Iraq," Zidan said.

Iraq, Iran agree to deepen strategic partnership as PM Zaidi ends visit to Tehran

Iran and Iraq have issued a comprehensive joint statement at the conclusion of Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi’s official visit to Tehran, reaffirming their commitment to expanding strategic cooperation across political, economic, security, cultural, and regional fields.

He described the joint martyrdom of General Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis as a "divine message" that carries the profound solidarity of the two nations.

Concluding the meeting, Zidan emphasized that the harmony and unity between the Iranian and Iraqi peoples is an "eternal solidarity" that will continue to anchor the region's future.

Prior to his meeting with the Parliament Speaker, Zidan held high-level discussions with the Head of Iran’s Judiciary, where officials underscored the deepening of bilateral cooperation across all sectors.

During those talks, both sides highlighted that legal and judicial relations between Tehran and Baghdad have significantly expanded and been institutionalized through a series of recently concluded agreements and memorandums of understanding, further solidifying the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two neighboring nations.

The senior Iraqi official also held talks with President Masoud Pezeshkian and SNSC Secretary Major General Mohsen Rezaei.
