Iran-Oman Hormuz understanding

Iran and Oman have agreed to establish a temporary joint maritime corridor through the Strait of Hormuz and implement a joint minesweeping procedure. That, according to a statement following talks in Tehran between the Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his Omani counterpart Sayyid Badr Al-Busaidi. The two ministers discussed a phased framework to resume safe navigation while preserving the sovereignty of both coastal states. Technical negotiations will continue with the aim of agreeing on a permanent maritime corridor and future management of the strait, including information exchange and traffic management. Both sides emphasized the importance of holding joint consultations with regional countries bordering the Persian Gulf.

Iran warns adversaries

Iran’s Acting Defense Minister has strongly warned against targeting the nation’s livelihood and security. In a post on X, Brigadier General Seyyed Majid Ibno Reza said the economy and the well-being of the people are part of the defense arena, and those who exert pressure should know that Iran will do the same in defense of its people. Meanwhile, Army Commander Major General Hatami warned the enemy must know Iran is not a testing ground for its adventurism. He vowed Iran is ready to counter short-, medium-, and long-term enemy scenarios. The official said Iran will fight for generations and will not allow any harm to the country. This after the US announced “unprecedented" sanctions against the Iranian economy.

Opposition to US sanctions

China opposes unilateral sanctions against Iran, warning that such measures could further destabilize the global economy. Lin Jian says Beijing firmly rejects sanctions that lack a basis in international law or authorization from the UN Security Council. Lin warned that economic pressure won’t resolve the issue, and could instead escalate tensions, create wider spillover risks and disrupt the global economic and financial order. He called for tensions to be eased and dialogue to resume as soon as possible. The United States has threatened secondary sanctions against countries trading with Iran. Meanwhile, the Qatari Foreign ministry has called the sanctions unilateral. Spokesman Majed Al Ansari says his country backs mediators' efforts to resolve the crisis. He added that Doha has been in contact with all parties, saying any escalation will have repercussions on the whole region and beyond. He said Doha continues mediatory efforts to get all parties to reach an agreement.
