Efforts aimed at de-escalation
As the US president continues to threaten Iran with military action, several countries step in to contain the escalation. The Turkish Foreign Minister has announced Ankara's opposition to any military intervention against Iran, emphasizing the potential risks such actions could create regionally and globally. Pakistan's Foreign Minister in a phone call with his Iranian counterpart expressed deep concerns stressing that dialogue remains the only viable path forward. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has also stated that there is still room for negotiations in the standoff between Washington and Tehran. And at the UN Security Council, China's permanent representative issued a stark warning against any military adventurism against Iran. He urged all parties to oppose interference in other countries' internal affairs.
Israeli crimes against Palestinians
Israeli occupation forces and settlers continue oppression against the Palestinians across the West Bank. They detained dozens of Palestinians after storming several areas, including the home of a man who was shot and killed in Bethlehem. In the early hours of Thursday, raids targeted towns north of Tulkarem while settlers stormed Joseph’s Tomb in Nablus under military protection. Meanwhile, residents in the Alkhalil area buried a Palestinian youth killed during an Israeli raid the night before. Since October 2023, Israeli military crackdown and settler attacks across the occupied West Bank have reached their highest level in decades, alongside the expansion of illegal settlements.
ICE brutality
Protesters have taken to the streets of several US cities against US President Donald Trump’s policies and the brutality of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. A vigil was held in the city of Minneapolis to honor all those who were killed by ICE agents. Mourners held candles as they gathered around a makeshift memorial for Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse who was killed by federal agents. They called for justice for the victim and demanded that ICE agents leave their city. In Washington, dozens of people also gathered for a candlelight vigil honoring Pretti. At the vigil, Congressman James Walkinshaw called on US lawmakers to take a stand to protect Americans from what he described as brutality by ICE and the Department of Homeland Security.
