US systematically paralyzing international institutions, Iran tells APA session

An Iranian lawmaker has warned of attempts by the administration of US President Donald Trump to systematically “paralyze” international organizations through pressure, sanctions, and threats.

Iran's Deputy Parliament Speaker Hamid Reza Haji Babaei made the remarks on Monday in an address to the 16th plenary session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) in the Bahraini capital of Manama.

He said the ruling US administration is trying to exploit natural resources, national wealth, and strategic capabilities of other countries, including those situated in Asia.

“No country, regardless of its size, power, or history of relations with the United States, is immune to [Washington’s] excessive demands, pressure, and intimidation.”

“In this context, we are witnessing a targeted and organized effort to weaken, discredit, and even paralyze international institutions and organizations. Ranging from the UN Security Council to international specialized forums, dispute resolution mechanisms and human rights bodies, all face pressure, sanctions, threats, or deliberate disregard.”

Haji Babaei also noted that the Islamic Republic has been one of the main targets of the “evil US strategy,” including threats to use force, illegal sanctions, direct and indirect acts of aggression in violation of the UN Charter.

He cited the US bombing of Iran's nuclear facilities in the midst of the illegal Israeli aggression against the country that killed at least 1,064 people between June 13 and 27, 2025.

Recent riots in Iran ‘directed from aboard’

Additionally in his remarks, the lawmaker stressed that from the beginning of last month’s peaceful protests in Iran over economic concerns, the US and the Zionist regime tried to divert them into violent chaos aimed at weakening the nation and the government.

“Shortly, a consistent pattern of organized violence emerged across the country, which involved the use of firearms to attack policemen, the deliberate torching of ambulances, medical centers, mosques, and residential buildings, and terrorist crimes,” he said.

“We were not dealing with spontaneous popular protests, but rather a project directed from abroad.”

Meanwhile, Haji Babaei said, American officials, including Trump himself, sought to legitimize foreign intervention by openly encouraging and promising support for the rioters, as well as publishing a false death toll.

In late December, Iran saw sporadic economic protests that were quickly hijacked by armed mercenaries incited by US and Israeli leaders and aided by their spy operatives on the ground.

Iran’s Foundation of Martyrs and Veterans Affairs said a total of 3,117 people had lost their lives during the unrest, adding that 2,427 of those killed were innocent civilians and security personnel.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the lawmaker praised Iranians’ million-strong demonstrations on January 12 in support of the rule of law and national stability.

He said the Iranian nation will neither yield to pressure, nor be deceived by destabilizing projects.

“The Islamic Republic has never been and will never initiate threats, tensions, or confrontations. However, any direct or indirect act of aggression will be met with a decisive, immediate, and proportionate response based on our country’s inalienable rights and in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter.”
