Attack on Gaza aid seekers
The Israeli aggression against Gaza continues unabated with more civilians falling victim to the genocide. 36 people were killed after Israeli forces opened fire on Palestinians near two aid distribution centers in Rafah and Khan Yunis, both in southern Gaza. The Israeli bombing of a residential building in Gaza’s al-Daraj neighborhood also killed multiple Palestinians. The Israeli military struck the tents of displaced Palestinians in the same area, killing at least 6 and injuring several others. The town of Jabalia in northern Gaza, was also the scene of deadly Israeli attacks. The US-Israeli genocide, which began in October 2023, has so far killed more than 58,760 Palestinians. Nearly 140,000 others have been injured. Most of the victims are women and children.
Syria clashes
Fighting in southern Syria rages on despite the announcement of an immediate ceasefire in Sweida by the leader of the HTS-led regime. Clashes are taking place in and around the flashpoint city, even as Syrian authorities claim their security forces are deploying to safeguard civilians and restore order. Over the past week, intense confrontations between HTS forces, Bedouin tribal factions, and Druze minority groups have deepened the humanitarian crisis, forcing tens of thousands to flee. Israel has also launched strikes against Syria, citing its support for the Druze population as justification. According to Syrian regime sources, the violence around Sweida has claimed the lives of at least 260 people in recent days.
Iran FM’s warning
Iran’s foreign minister says it still hasn’t decided to resume nuclear talks with the US, demanding real willingness from the other side for a true win-win solution. In an interview with China’s CGTN news channel, Abbas Araghchi reaffirmed that Tehran’s nuclear program is purely peaceful. He noted that back in 2015, Iran negotiated with the UN Security Council’s five permanent members plus Germany and reached a landmark nuclear deal celebrated worldwide as a diplomatic triumph. He said despite Iran’s commitment to the deal, the US abruptly withdrew from it, resulting in the current tensions. Iran’s top diplomat also condemned the recent Israeli aggression against the country as an unprovoked act of violation. He said Iran defended its territory courageously, forcing the attackers to halt their assault. He noted that the unconditional ceasefire request was subsequently accepted by Iran. Araghchi added that a diplomatic solution is only possible if the US abandons its military ambitions and compensates for the damage it inflicted on Iran. Iran’s top diplomat also underlined importance of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization to Tehran. He said Iran highly values the organization’s efforts to secure a deserving place for Global South countries in the international order. Araghchi noted that many nations are expressing interest in joining the SCO and called this a positive sign. He expressed Tehran’s gratitude to the SCO Secretariat and all its member states for condemning the US-Israeli aggression against Iran.
