Gaza ceasefire proposal
The Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas, says it has submitted its response to the US proposal for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. In a statement, Hamas said the response reflects its “high responsibility” toward its people and their suffering. Hamas also noted that the US proposal is designed to meet key demands, including a permanent ceasefire, the full withdrawal of the Israeli military from Gaza, and unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid to civilians in the besieged territory. Under the US proposal, ten living Israeli captives held by the resistance would be released, in addition to the handover of eighteen bodies. In return, 1,236 Palestinian abductees will reportedly be freed, including 126 serving life sentences. Some180 Palestinian bodies will also be released.
US-Israeli genocide in Gaza
More Palestinian civilians are slaughtered in Gaza as the Israeli military intensifies its attacks against the war-ravaged territory. In one of the latest strikes, at least six Palestinians were killed after Israeli warplanes bombed the tents of displaced Palestinians in al-Mawasi refugee camp, near Khan Yunis in the south. Also in southern Gaza, Israeli forces gunned down several Palestinians as they were attempting to reach an aid center near the town of Rafah. In central Gaza, an Israeli strike on a vehicle near al-Sahaba medical complex left a number of fatalities. Deaths were also reported after the Israeli artillery shelled a number of areas across the coastal sliver including the southern al-Saka neighborhood. The death toll from the US-Israeli genocide since October 2023 is nearing 54,400. More than 124,000 others have been injured. Most victims are women and children.
Breaking Gaza blockade
A humanitarian organization says it plans to send a ship carrying aid to Gaza, in an effort to break Israel’s naval blockade of the war-torn territory. The “Freedom Flotilla” organization said the ship named “Madleen” will depart for Gaza from the Italian port city of Catania on June 1. A delegation of 10 international activists will accompany the mission. Among the activists are Swedish climate advocate, Greta Thunberg, Palestinian-French Member of the European Parliament, Rima Hassan, and Irish actor and Palestine supporter , Liam Cunningham. The organization stressed its commitment to breaking Gaza’s blockade and delivering aid to Palestinians facing starvation. An earlier attempt by the NGO to deliver aid to Gaza failed after Israeli drones targeted its ship in international waters near Malta. The Freedom Flotilla condemned the attack as a “violation of international law.”
