Talks on Strait of Hormuz
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman says a joint statement between Iran and Oman on the Strait of Hormuz is now at the stage of final review and drafting. Esmaeil Baghaei described the talks with Oman on managing maritime traffic in the strategic waterway as professional, adding that both sides have agreed on the route coordinates. He stressed that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz was the result of US and Israeli regime’s aggression against Iran. The spokesman said an Iran-Oman understanding alone cannot mean that the strait has become safe for passing vessels, as the factors causing insecurity, including the US naval blockade, still remain. He also said talks between Iran and Oman, as the two coastal states of the Strait of Hormuz, have been underway over the past two months to establish a safe route for commercial shipping.
Israel Lebanon fatalities
The Israeli regime has intensified attacks on southern Lebanon after two of its soldiers were killed in an explosion in a Lebanese town. At least one person was killed and 12 others were wounded in an Israeli strike targeting an area in the town of Tibnin. The regime also issued forced evacuation orders for the town of Al-Mansouri. Earlier Israel said two of its soldiers died when an explosive-laden building detonated in Majdal Zoun town in southern Lebanon. Regime called the incident a violation of ceasefire with the country and said would respond to it. Reports also indicate that the Rome talks between Israel and Lebanon were called off due to the incident.
Yemen 'siege-for-siege' policy
The Yemeni armed forces say they have targeted another Saudi Arabian vessel in the Red sea, in response to the decade-long blockade of Yemeni ports by Riyadh. In a statement, Yemeni Armed Forces spokesperson Yahya Saree said the Saudi oil tanker named Wafa was hit by several ballistic missiles. He said this brings the total number of Saudi oil tankers targeted since Yemen began its maritime blockade to eight. That’s while 29 additional Saudi tankers have also been intercepted and forced to turn back in the Red and Arabian Seas. As a result, Riyadh has started diverting its oil shipments through the northern Red Sea. Yemen, however, says it will expand its operations to that route as well. Yemen has been under a decade-long blockade by Saudi Arabia following years of war and a tentative truce. The situation escalated again after a Saudi attack on Sana’a international airport. Since then, Yemen has been implementing a blockade-for-blockade policy on Riyadh.
