Israel violating Gaza truce

In the Gaza Strip, more than 24 hours have passed since a temporary ceasefire took effect between Israel and the Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas. But there are signs of Israel’s violation of the truce. A loud blast was heard near the border between Gaza and the southern occupied Palestinian territories. Following the blast, a cloud of black smoke was seen rising over the besieged strip. According to reports, Israeli forces also heavily fired at the city of Khuza’a, in the eastern Khan Yunis region. The four-day Gaza truce came into effect on Friday, at 7-AM local time. As part of the truce, Israel freed 39 Palestinian prisoners held in its jail. In return, Hamas released 13 captives held since Palestinians' al-Aqsa Flood operation on October the 7th. The truce led to a pause in the Israeli bombing of Gaza. Over 14,800 Palestinians have been killed in the war on Gaza.

'Israel failed to weaken resistance'

The Hamas resistance movement says it remains committed to the implementation of a Gaza truce agreement as long as Israel adheres to the deal. The Hamas political bureau chief says the group is prepared to continue countering the Israeli onslaught on the Gaza Strip after the truce ends. Ismail Haniyeh said the resistance is able to confront the Israeli regime, break its will, and thwart its plans. He said the enemy failed to weaken the will of the Palestinian nation and its heroic resistance and that’s why it accepted the terms of the truce. Haniyeh expressed gratitude to Palestinians in Gaza and the occupied territories for their steadfastness. He also went on to thank resistance groups in the region including Hezbollah in Lebanon and others in Iraq and Yemen.

Solidarity with Palestine

More rallies have been held in a number of cities around the world in solidarity with Palestinians who were under constant Israeli bombardment in Gaza for almost 50 days. In the US city of Chicago, protesters rallied outside several shopping centers as part of a nationwide action dubbed -shut it down for Palestine day. They yelled shame on you at shoppers inside the malls. In the city of Los Angeles, protesters accused President Joe Biden of being complicit in what they called Israel’s genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. In the Cuban capital Havana, tens of thousands of protesters, led by President Miguel Diaz-Canel, marched in front of the US embassy to condemn Israel’s genocidal war. In Australia, students skipped classes in Sydney to demand freedom for Palestinians. A similar rally was also held in New Zealand. Pro-Palestinian rallies have been held around the globe since Israel launched its deadly onslaught on Gaza, last month.
