Araghchi welcomes Xi’s initiatives, hails China-Iran strategic partnership
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has welcomed initiatives proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping for the region, saying Tehran considers them to reflect a more accurate understanding of global developments than approaches commonly seen in Western countries.
Speaking after consultations with Chinese officials in Beijing, Araghchi said Iran welcomed the initiatives put forward by President Xi.
“We welcome the initiatives of the respected President Xi. We believe these initiatives are presented with a more accurate understanding of global issues compared with the approaches we usually see in Western countries, which suffer from analytical weaknesses regarding global affairs,” he said.
Xi’s framework includes the Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, Global Civilization Initiative and Global Governance Initiative, which Beijing presents as complementary approaches addressing development, security, civilizational relations and reform of global governance.
The latest, the Global Governance Initiative, emphasizes sovereign equality, international rule of law, multilateralism, a people-centered approach and concrete action in efforts to reform the global governance system.
Araghchi met with his Chinese counterpart in Beijing on Wednesday to discuss bilateral and regional issues.
Emphasizing the importance of Tehran-Beijing relations, the Iranian foreign minister said ties between the two countries were being pursued at a strategic level based on the will of their leaders and the existing political trust.
He added that Tehran attached particular importance to advancing and strengthening relations with Beijing across various fields.
Araghchi noted that the current situation in the region is due to military aggression by the United States and the Zionist regime against Iran.
He said the resistance and steadfastness of the Iranian people had prevented the aggressors from achieving their objectives.
The Iranian foreign minister also praised China’s position in condemning violations by the United States and Israel of fundamental principles of the UN Charter, as well as Beijing’s “responsible approach” toward what he called Washington’s misuse of the UN Security Council.
