Five Israeli soldiers were wounded in a drone attack carrying explosive payloads in southern Lebanon on Wednesday, according to the Israeli military.

A military statement said one of the soldiers sustained serious injuries, while two others were moderately wounded, and two suffered light injuries.

Lebanon’s resistance movement Hezbollah has carried out a series of attacks on Israeli military positions in southern Lebanon in recent days, including drone strikes and artillery fire targeting Israeli forces and equipment.

As part of its retaliatory operations, Hezbollah said its fighters struck and destroyed technical devices belonging to Israeli occupation forces in southern Lebanon on Saturday.

Resistance fighters also destroyed an Israeli Merkava tank in the southeastern outskirts of Yahmor al-Shaqif, using an Ababil combat drone.

Hezbollah also targeted an Israeli position in the southern Lebanese city of Naqoura with two attack drones over the weekend.

Israeli media reports have meanwhile said Hezbollah’s expanding drone capabilities have significantly disrupted the regime’s military operations in southern Lebanon.

Israel's public broadcaster, known as Kan News, reported last month that up to 80 percent of Israel's planned assaults have been affected by Hezbollah's drone attacks.

It said Israeli forces have been forced to delay or cancel operations during daylight hours due to the threat of Hezbollah drones, shifting movements to night-time to reduce exposure.

According to media reports, Israeli forces are facing shortages of counter-drone systems, while Hezbollah is believed to have deployed around 100 drone operators across southern Lebanon.

Israeli military officials have also acknowledged that Hezbollah has deployed fibre-optic drones capable of bypassing conventional jamming systems.

These drones reportedly rely on ultra-thin optical fibre cables rather than radio signals, making them difficult to detect or intercept.

Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has recently described Hezbollah’s drone capabilities as a “major threat” and called for urgent countermeasures.

Meanwhile, Israel's ceasefire violations continue along the Lebanese border despite a recent understanding between Washington and Tehran aimed at ending the wider war that erupted after Israel and the United States launched an unprovoked aggression against Iran on February 28.

Iranian officials have repeatedly said that halting Israeli attacks across all regional fronts, particularly in Lebanon, is among the main objectives of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) expected to be signed between Tehran and Washington on Friday in Geneva.

Hezbollah welcomed the agreement on Monday while reiterating Lebanon’s right to self-defense until Israel fully withdraws from Lebanese territory and releases all prisoners.

Israel, however, has reportedly told Washington that it does not consider itself bound by the agreement, which calls for an immediate and permanent cessation of military operations across all fronts, including Lebanon.
