Iran’s Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned the Israeli regime’s “terrorist act” against a residential area in the southern suburbs of Beirut, calling it a flagrant violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty and a material breach of the April 8 ceasefire between Iran and the United States.
In a statement issued on Monday, the ministry said the attack, which killed and wounded several Lebanese citizens, constitutes “a flagrant violation of the ceasefire understanding” reached on April 8 between Tehran and Washington.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran, while reminding the US government of its direct responsibility for the crimes committed by the Zionist regime and its repeated violations of the ceasefire against Lebanon or Iran, affirms its determination to take all necessary measures to exercise the inherent right of self‑defense,” the statement read.
Tehran warned that the consequences of Israeli provocations for regional peace and security will fall squarely on the United States and the Zionist regime.
The April 8 ceasefire halted direct US‑Israeli military attacks on Iran after a 40‑day war of aggression that began on February 28.
However, Israel has continued to strike Lebanese border areas and has now again struck Beirut’s Dahiyeh district, a Shia-populated area.
Iran has repeatedly stated that any attack on Lebanon is a violation of the truce and will be met with a response.
Iranian officials have already promised retaliation following Sunday’s strike, which killed a senior Hezbollah commander and at least two other people.
