At least four people have been killed and 127 others wounded after an Israeli airstrike struck the vicinity of Jabal Amel Hospital in the southern Lebanese city of Tyre.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Lebanon’s Health Ministry said 39 hospital staff members were among the injured, including “four doctors, 27 nurses and eight administrative employees.”
Four of the wounded healthcare workers remain in critical condition and are receiving treatment in intensive care units, it added.
The ministry said the attack on Monday evening caused extensive damage to the hospital, affecting multiple departments and the facility’s parking area.
The inpatient ward, radiology department and intensive care unit were among the areas severely damaged, it said, adding that one wall of an operating room was blown open, forcing medical staff to urgently transfer several intensive care patients to safer areas within the hospital.
The death toll could rise further, the ministry warned, as recovery teams continue to search through the rubble.
Medical aid organization Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), which supports Jabal Amel Hospital, condemned the attack, expressing concern over “repeated strikes” affecting healthcare facilities in southern Lebanon.
“These repeated attacks reflect a grave failure to protect the medical mission and underscore the urgent need to safeguard civilians, medical staff, health facilities, and continuous access to lifesaving care,” said Omar Ebeid, MSF’s project coordinator in southern Lebanon.
The deadly attack came a day after another Israeli airstrike hit the vicinity of Hiram Hospital, also supported by the MSF, injuring 13 healthcare workers, according to Lebanese health authorities.
Israel has continued its attacks on Lebanon despite a ceasefire that took effect in April.
Since March 2, Israel has been conducting an expanded offensive on Lebanon, killing at least 3,468 people and wounding 10,577 others.
