Iranian Parliament Speaker has strongly condemned the assassination of the Al-Qassam Brigades' top commander by Israel while a ceasefire was in effect in Gaza, saying the killing is a clear demonstration of the regime’s treachery.
Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf made the remarks in a statement on Sunday, following the martyrdom of Izz El-Din Al-Haddad, known as Abu Suhayb, a day earlier.
“Although the history of the occupiers of the first Qibla of Muslims is rife with various crimes and betrayals, the martyrdom of the Qassam Brigades commander during the ceasefire once again confirmed their breach of promise and the enemies’ disloyalty,” he said.
“Once again, the hands of the criminal Zionist regime were stained with the blood of a great and unsung Mujahid,” Qalibaf said.
“And at a time when, with the false promises of notorious criminals, a ceasefire was apparently ruling in Gaza,” this high-profile commander “was martyred at the hands of the Zionist criminal sect, along with his wife and daughter,” he added.
The Iranian Parliament speaker further praised al-Haddad's legacy, asserting that he dedicated his life to resisting occupation, even sacrificing two of his sons for the same cause.
In conclusion, Qalibaf expressed confidence in the resilience of the Palestinian people, stating that the fate of Palestine will be determined by those who continue to uphold the legacy of resistance.
“Without a doubt, the divine promise is unchangeable and with the continuation of the line of resistance, the fate of the nation and the land of Palestine will be decided by the hands of the zealous Palestinians,” he said.
The high-profile commander of the Ezzeddine Al-Qassam Brigades was killed in an Israeli airstrike against the Gaza Strip on Saturday, despite a ceasefire agreement in place.
In a statement, the Ezzedine Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, officially confirmed the assassination of its top commander.
It said that Izz al-Din al-Haddad had been martyred in a "cowardly" Israeli air attack on Gaza City, denouncing the targeted killing as a flagrant violation of the Sharm el-Sheikh ceasefire deal.
The statement added that Haddad lost his life alongside his wife, daughter, and an unspecified number of other people.
