A senior Iranian military commander says the United States has failed to achieve its stated objectives in the war against Iran, while warning that violations of international law are deepening global crises, particularly in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking in a TV interview, Brigadier General Ali Fadavi, an adviser to the commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), said Washington had miscalculated its approach toward the Islamic Republic of Iran.

“While the Americans thought they could destroy Iran, they are now seeking to achieve very basic goals,” he said, referring to a significant gap between US expectations and outcomes.

Fadavi noted that the recent developments in the global energy sector amid the closure of the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, combined with heightened military activity, have amplified the geopolitical importance of the Persian Gulf region.

“Due to the follies of the ‘Great Satan,’ people around the world have been deprived,” he said, adding that the Strait of Hormuz plays a fundamental role in the global economy.

He stressed that the Strait of Hormuz, long viewed as a critical artery for global oil shipments, has become even more vital as natural gas emerges as a key energy alternative.

“The Strait of Hormuz plays an essential role in the global economy. In the past, only oil was the focus of this region’s importance, but now gas has been added to it,” he said.

Highlighting regional energy dynamics, Fadavi noted that Iran and Qatar rank among the world’s largest holders of natural gas reserves, positioning them as central players in the evolving global energy market.

As countries seek to reduce reliance on oil, he said, gas has become an increasingly important substitute, further elevating the strategic weight of the region.

“While the importance of oil has not yet diminished, the addition of gas to the energy equation has doubled the position of this strategic region,” he stated.

Fadavi also denounced the United States for pursuing military actions that violate established international norms, adding that Washington had failed to meet its goals within a short timeframe, citing Western analysts who have acknowledged the US failure.

He hastened to add that US military aggression had targeted civilian infrastructure in Iran, including schools and hospitals, in breach of international law.

“The school visited by foreign journalists yesterday is an example of such actions; a place where 170 male and female students were targeted by modern American missiles, even though this location was merely a school,” he said, referring to an attack in Minab.

According to Fadavi, the incident was not isolated, with “hundreds of other schools” also damaged in the ongoing aggression across the country.

He characterized such actions as war crimes under international legal frameworks, which mandate the protection of civilian sites during war.

“While America has not achieved its goals, these actions have not only created more problems but have also left a notorious record of violating international law for this country,” the IRGC commander remarked.

His remarks come as the war of aggression against Iran, launched on February 28 with the assassination of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and some top-ranking military commanders, completes one month.
