Iran military doctrine
Iran’s Army spokesman says the country has shifted its military doctrine from defensive to offensive. Brigadier General Mohammad Akrami-Nia said one of the manifestations of the change is Iran’s rapid response, referring to the swift retaliatory strikes right after the start of the US-Israeli war in late February. The Iranian general added that the shift also included preemptive operations during the war. He also said that Iranian armed forces are rebuilding damaged systems, adding new weapons and drones, and developing new tactics. Akrami-Nia noted that Iran is preparing for a wider, technology-driven confrontation that could target regional energy and communications infrastructure if attacked again. He added that the new posture is aimed at strengthening deterrence against the United States. Separately, the Commander of Iran’s Army Air Defense Force said the military is expanding and upgrading its air defense capabilities based on lessons learned from recent wars.
Israel Lebanon strike
Israel has carried out heavy shelling, airstrikes and demolition operations in southern Lebanon, in further violations of the ceasefire agreement with the Arab country. According to local media, an Israeli tank fired several shells at the town of al-Mansouri, south of Tyre, while Israeli forces carried out explosions on the outskirts of Sarbine in the Bint Jbeil district. Israel began escalating attacks on Lebanon on March the second. The Arab country has seen almost daily strikes and incursions ever since that have killed over 4,300 people and injured more than 12,000 others. As part of a framework deal reached in June, Israel agreed to withdraw from large swaths of southern Lebanon it is still occupying.
Nepal-Tibet border flood
At least 31 people have been killed and more than 400 others are missing after flash floods and mudslides struck along the Nepal-Tibet border. Rescue teams are searching for survivors on both sides of the border. The disaster struck early Wednesday in Nepal’s Rasuwa district, north of Kathmandu. Officials say an avalanche or glacial lake outburst may have triggered a massive surge of water and debris into the Bhote Koshi River. Nepal’s army says around 90 people have been rescued. Among those reported missing are tourists from several countries. The floods also struck near Gyirong Port on the Chinese side, cutting roads, communications and power supplies.
