Iraq blasts deadly US-Israeli strikes on anti-terror PMU fighters near Syria border

Iraq’s National Security Adviser Qasim al-Araji has strongly condemned US-Israeli strikes against three camps housing fighters from anti-terror Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) in the western province of al-Anbar as an attack on the Arab nation’s sovereignty.

In a statement on Thursday, Araji said the US-Israeli strikes on three PMU camps in the town of Qaim close to the border with Syria was a “blatant act of aggression” and a “flagrant violation of Iraq’s sovereignty.”

The senior Iraqi official noted that a number of PMU fighters were killed and injured in the aerial attacks.

According to Iraqi news outlets, at least 14 PMU fighters were killed in the strikes carried out by US and Israeli warplanes late on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq stated it had conducted 13 strikes targeting American bases across the country and region over the past 24 hours.

The resistance group said the retaliatory operations were carried out by a swarm of drones and struck US forces.

The operations came amid Washington’s continued aggression in the region, and ongoing attacks against the Axis of Resistance.

There were no immediate reports about the exact locations of the strikes and the extent of damage caused from the attacks.
