Trump targets two Muslim Congresswomen with deportation call after State of Union clash

US President Donald Trump (L) delivers the State of the Union address as Rep. Ilhan Omar shouts at him during a Joint Session of Congress at the US Capitol, Washington, the United States, on February 24, 2026.

In a fresh display of hostility toward dissent, US President Donald Trump has demanded the deportation of two Muslim members of Congress after they challenged him during his State of the Union address.

Trump demanded on Wednesday that Representatives Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar be expelled from the United States following their vocal protest during his address to Congress on Tuesday evening.

The two Democratic lawmakers interrupted the speech - the longest-ever address of its kind - to condemn Trump’s immigration policies, shouting, “You have killed Americans!” before leaving the chamber.

In a lengthy post on Truth Social, Trump attacked them personally, writing, “When people can behave like that, and knowing that they are Crooked and Corrupt Politicians, so bad for our Country, we should send them back from where they came — as fast as possible.”

Omar, originally from Somalia, has held US citizenship for nearly 30 years, while Tlaib, a Palestinian American born in Detroit, has been a citizen since birth. Under US law, neither can be deported to an ancestral country.

Tlaib pushed back on X, stating, “Can't take two Muslims talking back and correcting him so now he is crashing out. #PresidentMajnoon,” using an Arabic phrase meaning “mad” president.

The clash underscored ongoing friction between the White House and progressive lawmakers critical of the administration.

Trump’s online tirade also targeted actor Robert De Niro, describing him as “another sick and demented person with, I believe, an extremely Low IQ, who has absolutely no idea what he is doing or saying.”

Mocking the actor’s emotional criticism, Trump wrote, “When I watched him break down in tears last night, much like a child would do, I realized that he may be even sicker than Crazy Rosie O’Donnell, who is right now in Ireland trying to figure out how to come back into our beautiful United States. The only difference between De Niro and Rosie is that she is probably somewhat smarter than him, which isn’t saying much.”

De Niro had said on the MS Now podcast that Trump “is the enemy of this country, let's not kid ourselves.”

“He will never leave. We have to make him leave. You see, he jokes now about nationalizing the elections — he's not joking. We've seen enough already. And everybody's worried about it, but he means it,” the prominent actor added about Trump.

Meanwhile, a federal judge in Massachusetts has ruled that the Trump administration’s policy of deporting migrants to “third countries” where they have no ties is unlawful, saying it must be set aside.

US District Judge Brian E. Murphy paused his decision for 15 days to allow an appeal, noting that the Supreme Court previously allowed a deportation flight to South Sudan to proceed.

He held that migrants are entitled to “meaningful notice” and an opportunity to object, concluding the policy “extinguishes valid challenges to third-country removal by effecting removal before those challenges can be raised” and affirming that no person may be deprived of rights “without due process of law.”

Murphy also accused the Trump administration of repeatedly violating or attempting to violate his orders, citing deportations carried out despite a restraining order and criticizing officials for withholding the intended country of removal.

The Department of Homeland Security issued new guidance shortly after one of his earlier rulings, and the policy has affected immigrants previously granted protection from return to countries where they feared torture or persecution.

The Supreme Court’s conservative majority has supported swift third-country deportations, while Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Ketanji Brown Jackson dissented. Officials argued that eight men sent to South Sudan had US criminal convictions and final removal orders.
