The Iranian Embassy in Baku has strongly condemned “interventionist, provocative, and entirely false” remarks by the Israeli foreign minister during his visit to Azerbaijan.
In a statement on Monday, the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Azerbaijan described remarks made earlier that day by Gideon Sa’ar as “interventionist, provocative, and entirely false.”
“A representative of a regime that was founded through terror, occupation, and the colonial genocide of the Palestinian people, and whose very nature is intertwined with occupation, terrorism, and apartheid, and whose record is replete with organized crimes against humanity and genocide - particularly the widespread killing of women and children - lacks any legal or moral legitimacy whatsoever to speak about human rights or the internal affairs of other countries,” the statement read.
During a joint press conference with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Sa’ar had alleged that the Islamic Republic “is brutally murdering and oppressing its own people as they struggle for their freedom” and that a “massacre of unimaginable proportions” was taking place in Iran.
Foreign-instigated riots in Iran escalated on January 8 and continued for several days, following peaceful protests in Iranian bazaars and markets where traders called for government action to halt the devaluation of the Iranian rial.
The violence, encouraged openly by the Israeli regime and US President Donald Trump, resulted in extensive damage to public and private property, with widespread destruction of shops, government institutions, public service facilities, and the killing of thousands of civilians, including women and children, as well as security forces.
Iranian authorities have confirmed that US and Israeli spy agencies were directly involved, and provided funding, training, and media support to rioters and armed terrorists acting on the streets.
The Iranian Embassy emphasized that these “deceitful” remarks of the Zionist regime’s foreign minister constitute a desperate attempt to divert global public opinion away from the mounting pressure over the war crimes committed by the occupying entity in the Palestinian territories.
The statement further expressed regret over the opportunity provided to the representative of this illegitimate and criminal regime to whitewash its crimes and to make baseless claims and engage in ranting against Iran.
While underscoring the deep, historical, and inseparable ties between the two nations of Iran and Azerbaijan, the statement stressed in conclusion the need for vigilance regarding such acts of sedition and interventionist measures by the Zionist regime, which are carried out with the aim of undermining relations between the two countries and creating tension and instability in the region.
Previously, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, in a telephone conversation with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, explained that the recent events in Iran began as peaceful gatherings over economic and labor-related demands but turned violent due to the intervention of terrorist elements.
Iran’s top diplomat had also affirmed that the evidence clearly shows the Zionist regime’s direct role in arming and organizing armed terrorists, as well as the United States’ backing of these groups, highlighting a coordinated effort to destabilize the region.
