The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas says the ongoing attacks by extremist settlers against the Palestinian community in the occupied West Bank are part of a broader and systematic campaign to intimidate residents, complicate their daily lives, and create a new reality that paves the way for annexation and forced displacement of the people.
Abdul Rahman Shadid, a senior leader of the group, stated on Saturday that the relentless assaults faced by the West Bank governorates — ranging from demolitions and vandalism to theft and systematic intimidation — are executed in complete collaboration between Israeli forces and settler groups.
He added that this highlights the brutal nature of the Tel Aviv regime, showing a blatant disregard for laws or principles and a complete lack of concern for international warnings regarding the serious repercussions of its ongoing policy of forced displacement.
Shadid emphasized that these “crimes and acts of terrorism will not weaken our people's resolve, their strength on their land, or their commitment to their rights.”
No matter how Israel’s repression and aggression may become, Palestinians will never give up what is rightfully theirs, the senior Hamas official stated.
Shadid urged all walks of the Palestinian society to ramp up their mobilization and solidarity to confront these assaults, and to bolster the resilience of those living in the affected villages and communities.
He called on human rights organizations and the international community to take action and break their suspicious silence over settler offenses, and to take immediate steps to ensure accountability for the ongoing Israeli violations affecting the Palestinian people and territories.
Palestinians in the West Bank are experiencing heightened Israeli military operations and a surge in violent incidents by settlers following the onset of the devastating Gaza war in October 2023, which has claimed at least 71,548 lives in the coastal area.
Since then, at least 1,107 Palestinians have been killed and nearly 11,000 others injured in the West Bank due to attacks by the military and Israeli settlers in the occupied territory. Around 21,000 individuals have also been abducted by the forces of the occupying regime.
For months, human rights organizations have been sounding the alarm about the increasing risk of ethnic cleansing faced by Palestinians in the West Bank amid ongoing violence.
In July 2024, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) declared Israel’s prolonged occupation of historic Palestine to be unlawful and urged the removal of all settlements located in the West Bank and East al-Quds.
