The historic city of Lucknow once ruled by Nawabs of Iranian descent, and proudly known as India's heritage capital, is facing a silent crisis. Its rich Islamic architectural and cultural legacy built over centuries is gradually fading amid neglect and uncontrolled urban growth,

The city, known for its Indo-Persian culture, is home to some of India's most iconic monuments that reflect Persian, Mughal, and, local Avadi influence; yet the historic landmarks that quietly echo the city's nawabi heritage are under serious threat.

The buildings, one central to India's 1857 struggle against British rule, are now in a state of neglect.

Many believe that the Archeological Survey of India, the agency mandated to safeguard India's heritage sites, has not adequately fulfilled its responsibility in ensuring the effective protection and preservation of these assets.

The monuments in the city have been encroached upon, while many others are falling into decay.

Rapid urban growth, poor enforcement of heritage laws, and illegal construction, have left these centuries old structures vulnerable, threatening the city's character and identity.

These buildings fall under the Archeological Survey of India, but are largely neglected.

Their deteriorating condition, crumbling walls and damaged roofs is alarming.

If this continues, these structures that have drawn tourists worldwide for centuries will soon become history.

Allocating just 25% of their revenue for upkeep could restore their lost glory.

Heritage lovers and conservation experts have voiced deep concern over the worsening state of Lucknow's famed monuments.

They point out that despite court orders directing authorities to remove encroachments and safeguard these sites, action on the ground has been slow.

Many argue that without effective measures, the city of Nawabs risks losing much of its historical and cultural legacy forever.

It is deeply concerning that Lucknow historic monuments are steadily deteriorating while apathy toward their condition persists.

Urgent and decisive action is needed to restore and preserve these heritage sites, or they risk losing both their structural integrity and the living legacy of a city once renowned for Islamic art and culture.

Unfortunately, the government has failed to maintain these sites, despite earning millions from them; many of these historic structures are in a state of ruin and require urgent attention.

It is evident that there is a lack of commitment to safeguarding these buildings, as reflected in the absence of meaningful efforts towards their conservation.

Experts call for the formation of a dedicated Task Force tasked with restoring the city's architectural treasures.

They stress the need for public awareness, responsible urban planning, and, strict enforcement of preservation laws, to ensure the city's historic sites are protected for future generations.

Lucknow's historic monuments are falling into decay, threatening the city's rich heritage.

Experts warn that urgent action is needed to restore and protect these sites, preserving the identity of the medieval era cultural hub that is known for its significance in the first war of independence against British colonial rule.
