Iran has posthumously awarded the rank of Lieutenant General to martyr Mohammad Bagheri, with the distinction formally presented to his family, following his assassination during the Israeli aggression against Iran in June.
In recognition of his outstanding merit, effective role in critical missions, and tireless dedication to safeguarding national security, and following the approval of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the rank of Lieutenant General was posthumously conferred upon martyr Mohammad Bagheri.
The rank was presented to his family on behalf of the Commander-in-Chief by Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi.
General Mousavi visited the residence of General Bagheri’s family, where he formally presented the rank to the martyr’s daughters, representing the Commander-in-Chief.
During the visit, he met and spoke with the family, honoring the legacy and path of the distinguished, scholarly, and resolute commander.
General Mousavi described Martyr Bagheri as “a symbol of knowledge, authority, foresight, and loyalty to the ideals of the Islamic Revolution,” noting that he was “a respected and widely admired figure among all members of the Armed Forces.”
“I had the honor of serving alongside him for a period as his deputy and benefited greatly from his character, wisdom, and strategic mindset,” he added.
Referring to General Bagheri’s visionary thinking and forward-looking approach, the Chief of the General Staff stated that his ideas have today become “one of the main pillars of the Armed Forces’ continued advancement.”
He emphasized that “the path and school of thought of this dear martyr will continue with strength, unity, and without interruption, and God willing, by drawing upon his intellectual and practical legacy, we will pursue the country’s path of progress and smart deterrence with even greater resolve.”
General Mousavi further underlined that “the legacy left behind by Martyr Bagheri in the operational, intellectual, and organizational domains constitutes a key part of the architecture of the country’s sustainable security, and preserving and advancing it is a national and strategic duty for us all.”
General Bagheri was martyred in the Israeli aggression against Iran in June along with other top-ranking military commanders and nuclear scientists.
He served as the top military general since June 2016, when Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Khamenei named him to succeed Major General Seyyed Hassan Firouzabadi.
Before that, he had served as Deputy for Intelligence and Operations and later as Deputy for General Affairs and Joint Operations at the General Staff.
Following his martyrdom in the Israeli terrorism, the Leader appointed Major General Seyed Abdolrahim Mousavi as his successor.
