A senior Palestinian resistance leader has paid a heartfelt tribute to the former head of the Palestine unit of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC)’s Quds Force, who was martyred during the Israeli regime’s unprovoked war on Iran last month.
Ziyad al-Nakhalah, secretary general of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, paid the homage in a note published in Lebanon’s al-Akhbar daily, resistance news outlets reported on Monday.
The former described the victim, Brigadier General Mohammad Saeed Izadi, also known as Haj Ramezan, as a commander who was martyred while serving the Palestinian cause of liberation from Israeli occupation and aggression.
Nakhalah remembered Izadi as a tireless and devoted figure, whose dedication to the struggle would continue to inspire generations.
He shared how he first met Haj Ramezan in the late 1980s, at a time when the commander’s deep passion for Palestine, and its liberation, including that of the holy occupied city of al-Quds, from US-backed Israeli oppression, was immediately clear.
The resistance leader remembered how Izadi would underline, “We are here to fight for al-Quds” during his first encounter with the martyr.
‘Representative of Iran’s support for Palestine’
During his commandership with the Quds Force, Haj Ramezan stood out as the foremost representative of Iran’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, Nakhala noted.
He built strong and ongoing connections with all Palestinian factions and worked tirelessly towards the realization of his mission and purpose, the Palestinian official added.
According to Nakhala, Izadi was constantly attentive to Palestinians’ needs, ensuring the sustained provision of required aid to them.
“He never tired,” al-Nakhalah emphasized. “Whenever we turned to him for assistance, his answer was always the same, ‘No problem.’”
Through all circumstances, whether in moments of calm or tension, joy or sorrow, Palestine remained at the center of his life, Nakhala asserted, adding that even when disagreements arose, they were always rooted in the shared goal of further strengthening the resistance.
In a powerful spiritual parallel, al-Nakhalah compared Haj Ramezan’s significance to that of Salman Farsi -- Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)’s first companion of Persian descent -- whom the Prophet used to describe as “one of us, the People of the Prophet’s Household.”
Closing his tribute, al-Nakhalah bid farewell to Haj Ramezan, calling him “a martyr on the path to al-Quds.”
The Israeli war led to the martyrdom of a number of other senior Iranian military commanders, nuclear scientists, and civilians.
The Islamic Republic responded with prompt and effective retaliation, striking nuclear, military, and industrial Israeli targets with hundreds of advanced ballistic missiles and drones, forcing the regime to request a ceasefire just after 12 days of launching the war.
