Six members of the same family have been killed in a Saudi airstrike targeting a home in Yemen’s northwestern province of Hajjah, as Riyadh expands its aerial bombardment against multiple regions across Yemen.
The al-Masirah television channel, citing local sources, reported that six bodies were recovered on Tuesday from beneath the rubble of a residential building destroyed in the attack in Umm al-Dahi village of the Harad district.
The sources identified the victims as a couple and their four young children, aged between 3 and 8 years old. They were survived by a 6-year-old girl who sustained serious injuries in the aerial assault.
Hajjah province has been repeatedly targeted because of its strategic position along northern Yemen’s communication routes.
Spokesperson of the Yemeni Ministry of Public Health and Population, Dr. Anis al-Asbahi, said three civilians, including a child, were also injured when Saudi fighter aircraft bombed Sala district in the southwestern province of Ta’izz.
Meanwhile, the Yemeni Armed Forces have dealt a heavy blow to Saudi-backed mercenary forces in the eastern countryside of the northern Al-Jawf province.
The Yemeni army soldiers struck the positions of the Saudi-sponsored militants, killing dozens of them in the process and setting a number of military vehicles ablaze.
Elsewhere in the central province of Ma’rib, several Saudi-backed mercenary forces were killed and wounded when Yemeni military units targeted their temporary camps in the Raghwan district.
The military units also carried out mop-up operations in the strategic southwestern province of Ta’izz, purging the remaining districts of Saudi-sponsored gunmen.
On July 20, the Sana’a government announced a maritime blockade against Saudi Arabia in response to “an unjust and oppressive siege” on Yemen for almost 12 years.
The Yemeni armed forces have also reported a series of successful missions that have targeted vessels associated with Saudi Arabia in the Red Sea.
In March 2015, Saudi Arabia and its allies imposed a blockade on Yemen, initiating a comprehensive military offensive that received support in terms of military, political, and logistical assistance from the United States and several Western countries.
Tens of thousands of Yemenis have lost their lives; however, Saudi Arabia has failed to achieve its primary goal of reestablishing a puppet government that served its interests.
