Online voices rally behind Pezeshkian’s UN speech, condemn Western double standards

Online reactions have widely supported Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s speech at the 81st United Nations General Assembly, highlighting his account of terrorism victims in Iran, criticism of double standards over nuclear oversight and support for the Palestinian people.

Pezeshkian’s speech on Wednesday recalled the suffering of victims of terrorism in Iran and the families of those killed in the country.

His remarks also rejected the false narrative surrounding Iran’s nuclear program and drew attention to Israel’s undeclared nuclear arsenal and the lack of international inspections there.

Prabhu Chawla, editorial director of The Indian Express, urged his followers to listen carefully to Pezeshkian, writing that Israel possesses many weapons of mass destruction without facing inspections while all attention remains focused on Iran.

“Valid point,” Chawla added, saying that international monitoring mechanisms should not be discriminatory.

Pathikrit Sen Gupta, senior editor of News 18, highlighted the same issue by quoting Pezeshkian who said: “Nukes are in Israel but IAEA inspectors are in Iran.” He noted that Pezeshkian exposed "Western hypocrisy".

Daily The Destination, a news and current affairs account on X, pointed to Iran’s continued emphasis on diplomacy, posting: “Iran Rejects US Pressure, Keeps Door Open Diplomacy.”

M World, a news account covering international affairs, praised Pezeshkian for displaying “heartbreaking photographs” reflecting the severe impact of US-Israeli aggression on Iranian civilians and challenging the international community at the UN General Assembly.

Mario Nawfal, a media and political activist and host of the Mario Nawfal Show, also reposted a message from one of his followers endorsing Pezeshkian’s remarks on Israel’s actions in Gaza, describing attacks on Palestinian communities as acts of terror and referring to more than 80,000 Palestinian civilians killed in Gaza.

“10000%” Nawfal wrote in response to the message supporting Pezeshkian’s remarks.

Zee Business, an Indian business-news network, also underscored the Iranian president’s call for “justice for Palestine.”
