Conditions for Hormuz reopening
Iran’s parliament speaker says the Strait of Hormuz won’t reopen as long as the country’s conditions are not met. Ghalibaf emphasized the importance of fighting and negotiating at the same time. Ghalibaf said Tehran would use military force to push back its enemies and diplomacy to consolidate battlefield gains when the time is right. His remarks came after Iran’s top security official, Major General Mohsen Rezaei, announced that Tehran had conveyed seven conditions to the US as prerequisites for any talks. Rezaei said Washington has no choice but to accept Iran’s conditions if it wants to get out of the dire situation it has created in the region. The Islamic Republic says in order for Hormuz to reopen, wars in all fronts must end, and that the naval blockade against Iran must be lifted. Tehran also demands the release of Iranian frozen assets.
Hamas slams Israeli violation
The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has condemned the Israeli prime minister’s entry to the al-Aqsa mosque compound in the occupied al-Quds. Hamas described as a flagrant assault on the Mosque’s identity and status, Netanyahu’s incursion into areas beneath the holy site as well as his presence at the al-Buraq Wall. It also stressed that the al-Aqsa Mosque will remain an exclusively Islamic site. The statement came after Netanyahu, several ministers and hundreds of Israeli settlers entered the mosque, under the protection of Israeli forces.
Russia-Ukraine war
Ukrainian armed forces have launched massive drone attacks on Russian territory including the capital Moscow, killing at least two people. The victims lost their lives in attacks on the Moscow region. The city’s mayor says armed forces downed more than 1,600 drones since Saturday, over a third of them targeted at Moscow. Sergei Sobyanin says several drones passed the defenses, one hitting an apartment building and several hitting the Moscow oil refinery’s precincts. Sobyanin said Ukraine aimed to disrupt the ongoing parliamentary elections, which are expected to cement the ruling United Russia’s grip on power. Meanwhile, a Russian airstrike hit a shopping center in the Eastern Ukrainian city of Dnipro. The attack triggered a large blaze that damaged the building and injured at least two people. Both Russia and Ukraine have escalated long-range strikes against each other in recent months.
