Iran summons German ambassador over Berlin’s hostile positions, interventionist activities
Iran’s Foreign Ministry has summoned German Ambassador Axel Wilhelm Dittmann and delivered a forceful protest over Berlin’s hostile approach toward Iran and the German embassy’s meddling in the country’s internal affairs.
Dittmann was summoned on Thursday by Alireza Yousefi, the Foreign Ministry’s assistant minister and director general for Western Europe.
Yousefi strongly rejected recent “baseless remarks” by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and conveyed Iran’s deep protest over Berlin’s “unjustified and destructive” approach.
During a joint press conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi on Wednesday, Merz falsely accused Iran of supporting what he called “regional proxies,” pursuing a “military nuclear program,” and obstructing shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
Yousefi called on the German government to abandon its hostile stance and fundamentally correct a policy that has seriously damaged bilateral relations.
Referring to Germany’s military and political support for the Israeli regime, the Iranian official noted that people across the region and the world regard the German government as complicit in Israel’s genocide and other crimes against Palestinians and other regional countries.
Yousefi also strongly objected to the German embassy’s interventionist activities in Tehran, emphasizing that diplomatic missions are expected to respect the laws and sovereignty of their host countries.
Dittmann, for his part, said he would convey Iran’s strong protest to the German government, signaling Berlin’s awareness of Tehran’s objections.
On Wednesday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei dismissed Merz’s designation of regional resistance movements as mere “proxies,” stressing that they are independent actors with their own clear causes and calculations, fighting for “self-determination, freedom, and dignity against occupation, aggression, and subjugation.”
On the Strait of Hormuz, Baghaei rejected Merz's portrayal of Iran as the source of the crisis. “It was the US and the Israeli regime, not Iran, that launched a war of aggression, and Germany failed to show even the minimum moral courage required to deplore that,” he said.
He also reiterated that Tehran possesses no “military” nuclear program, describing the allegation as an “Israeli-fabricated ‘big lie’” that is routinely repeated by Tel Aviv’s supporters in European capitals to justify acts of war.
