Iran modernizing its defense industry in light of recent wars: Ministry

Iran's Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics has stressed that the Islamic Republic is modernizing its defense industry in response to needs unveiled by the recent wars imposed on the country by the United States and Israel.

The recent imposed wars “were an opportunity to gain a more precise understanding of capabilities, reveal new needs, and chart the path for the future. We have learned never to stop,” the ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

"Accordingly, we consider the recent imposed war, a war of the past; without pride or apprehension, we continuously modernize, reinvent, and update the defense industry in line with these findings and lessons."

The ministry noted that the country's defense capabilities, developed over the years by Iranian experts, along with the operational capabilities of Iran’s armed forces as well as the steadfast Iranian nation, “thwarted a significant part of the enemy's calculations and goals and left them astonished”.

According to the statement, the recent wars also showed that unity is the “foundation” of national security, which provides the basis for the country's continued power and progress.

“The experience of recent wars has shown that the stronger the bond between the nation and the armed forces, the greater the country's ability to confront threats and overcome crises,” it read.

The statement was issued ahead of the National Defense Industry Day, marked on the 31st of the Persian calendar month of Mordad which falls on August 22 this year.

“Mordad 31 is a day to commemorate the proud path that the Iranian nation has taken to build its defense and industrial power; a path that began in difficult and eventful years and emerging from the historical experience of struggles to achieve independence and break free from the shackles of colonialism and dependence, sanctions and threats,” it said.

The statement emphasized that sanctions and threats have increased the country’s determination to rely on its domestic powe.

“This path was designed, architected, and engineered under the guidance and leadership of the martyred leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.”

The statement also paid tribute to the martyrs of the ministry who lost their lives “in defense of the country and the Iranian nation" in the June 2025 war and the 40-day war, which was launched by the US and Israel late in February.

The ministry vowed to continue the path outlined by the martyred leader and for which the martyrs sacrificed their lives.

According to the statement, the ministry’s clear mission is “to transform battlefield experience into knowledge, knowledge into technology, and technology into the defense capability of the future”.

“This path will continue with reliance on God Almighty, under the strategic command of His Eminence Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, and with the support of the Iranian people and the efforts of the new generation of scientists, specialists, and young people of this land.”

The US and Israel launched another round of aggression against Iran on February 28, some eight months after carrying out unprovoked attacks on the country.

Iran swiftly retaliated by launching barrages of missiles and drones at the Israeli-occupied territories, as well as US bases and interests across the region.

A ceasefire took effect on April 7, and on June 18, the presidents of Iran and the United States signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to end the war and begin a 60-day diplomatic process to resolve the differences.

However, renewed US strikes in recent days have once again triggered Iranian retaliation.
