The Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates says the country’s armed forces are closely monitoring developments, stressing that they will respond to any threat and conspiracy by enemies with more severe and devastating attacks.
The ministry announced in a statement on Monday that Yemeni military units stand with open eyes, prepared, and more vigilant than ever, and will not hesitate to respond in kind to any Saudi escalation of tensions.
“After the Saudi regime reneged on all previous commitments and escalated its blockade to an unprecedented level, the Republic of Yemen resorted to the ‘siege-for-siege equation’ as a necessary measure to save the Yemeni nation in the face of the world's worst humanitarian crisis,” the statement read.
The ministry noted that Saudi authorities opted to adopt further escalatory steps, including constant mobilization of mercenary forces throughout southwestern Yemen, once Yemeni forces decided to implement the “siege-for-siege equation.”
The Yemeni foreign ministry described Saudi military buildups as a direct threat to the security, safety, and stability of Yemen, stressing that the Yemeni Armed Forces have dealt with them appropriately.
The ministry also underscored that the Riyadh regime must realize that it has no viable option but to completely lift its blockade on Yemen, end its mobilizations, and let the Yemeni people access their resources.
On July 20, the Sana’a government declared a maritime blockade against Saudi Arabia, claiming that the Riyadh authorities have maintained “an unjust and oppressive siege” on Yemen for nearly 12 years, “exploiting our resources and imposing a complete blockade.”
The Yemeni armed forces have subsequently announced many successful missions targeting Saudi-linked vessels in the Red Sea.
Back in March 2015, Saudi Arabia along with its allies enforced a blockade on Yemen, launching an all-out onslaught supported militarily, politically, and logistically by the United States and certain Western nations.
Tens of thousands of Yemenis have been killed, but Saudi Arabia has not succeeded in obtaining its main objective of reinstating a puppet regime that aligns with its interests.
