Israel ‘number one enemy’ of Muslim states: Iran Parliament speaker
Iran's Parliament speaker has underlined the need for unity among Muslim countries, describing the Israeli regime as their primary enemy.
Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf made the remarks during a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi in Tehran on Thursday.
Qalibaf said that Iran-Iraq cooperation is highly beneficial for the stability of West Asia and the Muslim world as the two neighboring states, through working together, can resolve many regional problems.
“Cooperation between Iran and Iraq to preserve the unity of Islamic countries against the Zionist regime, which is the number one enemy of Muslims, can certainly be effective,” he added.
The top parliamentarian also expressed his gratitude to the Iraqi nation and government for holding the magnificent funeral procession for the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
He further thanked the Arab country for its hospitality toward pilgrims attending the annual march of Arba'een, the 40th day after the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS), the third Shia Imam.
Al-Zaidi, for his part, said that Iraq and Iran are not only neighbors but also partners, because they share the same destiny.
He further noted that there is no need to thank Iraq as his country regarded holding the Leader’s funeral ceremonies as its duty.
“His (Ayatollah Khamenei’s) passing is not the loss of an ordinary individual; rather, we have lost one of the foremost Shia leaders,” he pointed out.
The Leader was assassinated, alongside some of his family members, on February 28, the first day of the 40-day illegal war of aggression waged by the United States and the Israeli regime against Iran.
The mass funeral and farewell ceremonies for the late Ayatollah Khamenei took place in Iran and Iraq on July 3-10.
According to estimates, between 41 and 43 million people participated in the funeral procession across Iran and Iraq, making the funeral the largest of its kind in the world.
