American officials have reportedly expressed growing concern over Iran’s evolving missile capabilities, saying Tehran has adapted its missiles to penetrate US air defense systems and carry out increasingly precise strikes against sensitive targets.
According to a report by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) on Saturday, Iran has demonstrated increasingly sophisticated missile capabilities during its latest wave of retaliatory strikes on US military positions across West Asia.
US officials say Tehran is deploying missiles capable of traveling at extremely high speeds while maneuvering during their terminal phase to complicate interception, the WSJ said.
They say Iran has adapted its tactics to overcome American air defenses by employing missiles that can alter their trajectory as they descend toward their targets.
The officials also raised concerns that Iran’s improved targeting accuracy could be benefiting from external assistance, including “potential support from China or Russia.”
For eight consecutive nights, the terrorist US military has conducted waves of destructive strikes on Iran and reinstated a blockade of Iranian ports in flagrant violation of a war-termination deal.
The US military has committed war crimes by deliberately targeting civilian facilities, including bridges and desalination plants, across several Iranian provinces, including Hormozgan, Bushehr, Sistan and Baluchestan, and Khuzestan.
The escalation came after the United States violated the Pakistan-brokered Memorandum of Understanding of June 17 by attempting unauthorized naval movements through the Strait of Hormuz, with the Iranian Navy intercepting the vessels to enforce the agreement.
According to Iran’s Health Ministry, at least 50 people, including women and children, were killed and more than 500 others injured in the attacks of the past week.
In response to the strikes, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) and the Iranian Army launched multiple waves of attacks against US military positions across the region.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said Iranian forces hit a US target in Jordan on Friday, killing two service members and wounding several others. One US service member had gone missing in the attack.
