Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif (L) and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, accompanied by a high-level delegation, offer prayers during the funeral ceremony for the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, in Tehran on July 3, 2026.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has praised the wisdom, visionary leadership and profound influence of the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, saying his legacy will be remembered for generations.

In a post on X on Saturday, Sharif said he paid his respects and conveyed the deepest condolences of the Pakistani government and people to the Iranian government and the brotherly people of Iran during the funeral ceremonies for Ayatollah Khamenei in Tehran.

“The late Supreme Leader’s wisdom, leadership and profound influence on Iran and the wider region will be remembered for generations,” Sharif wrote.

The prime minister was accompanied by a high-level delegation to demonstrate Pakistan’s solidarity with the Iranian people.

The delegation included Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, as well as senior parliamentarians, ministers and other government officials.

“As a brotherly neighbor, Pakistan stands with Iran in this time of grief,” Sharif added.

The Pakistani embassy in Tehran had earlier issued a press release stating that, at the invitation of Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, Prime Minister Sharif attended the funeral ceremony of the late Ayatollah Khamenei, who embraced martyrdom on February 28, 2026, during the US-Israeli attacks on Iran.

“On this solemn occasion, the prime minister recalled the lasting contributions of the late Supreme Leader to Islam. He paid rich tribute to the late Supreme Leader, who guided the Iranian nation for decades with remarkable wisdom and sagacity,” the embassy said.

“The prime minister expressed full solidarity with Supreme Leader His Eminence Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian and the brotherly people of Iran in this moment of national grief and prayed to Allah Almighty for the forgiveness of the departed leader,” the message added.

Prime Minister Sharif was among dozens of world leaders and senior foreign officials who traveled to Tehran to attend the funeral ceremonies for Ayatollah Khamenei.

The event drew one of the largest gatherings of foreign dignitaries in Iran in recent decades, with representatives from across Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas, as well as international organizations, attending the ceremonies.

On Saturday, a public farewell ceremony at Tehran’s Grand Imam Khomeini Mosalla drew massive crowds, with Iranian officials estimating that between 15 and 20 million mourners would take part in the week-long funeral processions.

Ayatollah Khamenei is scheduled to be laid to rest in his hometown of Mashhad on Thursday.
